I booked an appointment to get my eyes tested as although I wasn't due and eye test for another month I have noticed when I was brushing my hair in th bathroom mirror and the only way to describe it is when I am looking up with my eyes with my head down I see like a dark patch in the corner by my nose (kind of the same thing seen the you push on the corner your eye and get that dark circle come up from the pressure )
its only in my right eye and im scared its like eye cancer or something

im 22 weeks pregnant and mentioned this I also did mention the dark patch an she just said eyes change so much during pregnancy there's no point she also asked the eye person doing the tests and he said no point so I just went

I didnt have this problem before being pregnant as far as im aware so shall I just wait till after the baby ? im due june
I have 0 other symptoms like pain in my eye headaches etc

Did the optician know you were having worrying symptoms? Did you say that you still wanted a test?

gluttonousgoldbug · 13/02/2024 18:05

I wouldn't be happy with this. I would go back (or to a different opticians) and say you have some worrying symptoms and would like an eye health check, not a test for a prescription but to inspect your retina ect are in good condition.
I am not a medical professional but I would say changes to vision should be checked regardless of pregnancy.

mintich · 13/02/2024 18:06

Go back or somewhere else. You are having symptoms that need to be checked.
Pregnancy can affect your prescription due to water retention but that's all.
Did the optometrist hear about the dark patch? Worrying if they have dismissed that!

fandjango · 13/02/2024 18:07

You need to get a second opinion. This could be anything. It may be nothing serious but you may also need some medical help.

I would be making a complaint and finding another optician that's outrageous.

I had worrying eye symptoms in my pregnancy and my hospital consultant insisted i go to the opticians which was lucky as i needed an MRi and later surgery!

I am not saying that to worry you but do not be fobbed off. You know your own body

this was specsavers but ill ring another place like vision express instead, I told the receptionist about this and she did speak to the eye test person but I dint see them...

Usually specsavers are really good. It was one of their branches that sorted me out. I'm so surprised they have been so rude to you. Hope you get sorted soon. Hopefully it's just a hormonal pregnancy thing and nothing to be concerned about. I didn't mean to worry you x

I was worried anyway dont worry ahah but ive managed to book an appointment for later today 1pm, ill just explain I dont wnt an eye test for prescription just to check this thing out !

Yes good idea. I think you can also have an OCT scan which is a bit more detailed. I think it's £10 extra but worth it for extra peace of mind. Good Luck

RiderofRohan · 14/02/2024 08:44

Do you have a local eye casualty? If they refuse you again, I'd go there instead

ejndwejnfk · 14/02/2024 14:51

Maybe try another branch of specsavers or try to speak to someone else in person.

Usually specsavers are very good and offer an appointment straightaway if there is something unusual going on. They are very thorough with the eye test/checks too.

Edit : Just seen you've been checked already. Glad all is well.

So pleased it all went ok. I've been thinking about you.

Hopefully you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy now.

Congratulations 🥳 and well done for being firm for yourself x
