@Emmacb82 that's absolutely spot on, especially the part about feeling resentful.

Thank you all, all of your replies are so comforting 😊

@Sa11yCinnamon Thank you, I just want her to feel better. She’s sick almost every time she lies flat so I’m sure it’s reflux but can see why the doctor doesn’t want to go straight in with medicine in case it resolves itself once she’s settled with the nutramigen formula.

Sa11yCinnamon · 24/06/2024 09:38

I feel SO much better today after a better night. Posting for anyone else feeling similar - it will pass, and talking really helps!

It’s amazing the difference a night can make @Sa11yCinnamon! Glad to hear you’re feeling better.

We had another tough night last night - he wouldn’t go down until 2.45am and seemed to be struggling with wind every time I put him in the crib. Thankfully I had a short nap after my son went to nursery and another longer one this afternoon so feel a bit more prepared if the same thing happens tonight.

SarahB88 · 25/06/2024 00:25

Hoping you all have an ok night tonight with this heat. I’m waiting for my one to drift off to sleep fully before putting her down again. She’s in a 0.5 tog sleeping bag with short sleeve vest, 24 degrees in the room. Hoping she doesn’t get too hot 🤞

TheBirdintheCave · 25/06/2024 07:06

Sooo hot in our room last night.

PeppedUp · 25/06/2024 09:41

We had a way better sleep last night and I feel so much better in time for our first baby massage session today 🙂

Baby did a big poo after two days without so maybe that helped. Health visitor said it could have been the warm weather or infant dyschezia that was making him a bit less frequent.

Mountainview8 · 25/06/2024 10:23

Well done everyone in managing with the heat. I've just been letting my baby sleep in just a vest and seems to be fine.

@PeppedUp by baby's sticky eyes seemed to have cleared up a bit now, I think his tear ducts are starting to work, so keeping his eyes clearer. Sticky eyes probably only lasted about a week, but I'm lost with the days!

Irishmamatobe24 · 26/06/2024 03:27

Our wee guy is now a month old and I can't believe how quickly time has passed. I really don't think I appreciated my free time enough pre baby!

For those who are breastfeeding, how long are your babies feeding for? Worried that he isn't feeding for long enough sometimes and that he won't be gaining enough weight. All was good at his 3 week check but he won't be weighed again until 6 weeks.

@Mountainview8 we also had to deal with a case of sticky eye, eye was completely crusted over at one stage. Our midwive suggested that we used cooled boiled water with a small amount of Johnsons baby shampoo. Use a piece of cotton wool soaked in the solution to swipe the eye clean. Use a new piece of cotton wool for each wipe/swipe. Cleared up his eye in a day, couldn't get over it!

Emmacb82 · 26/06/2024 07:50

I’m breastfeeding and every feed is different to be honest. She is almost 7 weeks now and can feed anywhere from hourly to 3 hourly. Normally feeds last about 10-15 mins but can be shorter or longer. But I’m more confident this time round as it’s not my first time so I’m more relaxed and just going with it. As long as your little one is having lovely wet nappies and pooing regularly and seems content after feeds I would say you’re doing fine. And if they had gained weight at 3 weeks when everything is still being established then there shouldn’t be any problems now hopefully. It’s just tricky isn’t it because you can’t see what they’re having!

I have never heard that about mixing cool boiled water with shampoo - I would be very wary of doing that as it could make the eye sore! I’m a paeds nurse and we just recommend the water but it’s interesting to know it worked!

PeppedUp · 26/06/2024 08:32

@Mountainview8 thats encouraging that yours seems to be clearing up. We are still not having any luck.

@Irishmamatobe24 I really want to try your shampoo solution - very tired of these gunky eyes. I just wanted to check how much shampoo compared to water you put in and how often you applied it? Also, did your baby mind it being applied given shampoo can be irritating for the eyes?

In terms of breastfeeding times, I don’t time it but I think 15 minutes would be common. Sometimes he stays on for longer. We’re also a month old so will know for sure at the six week weigh in but for now he has lots of wet and dirty nappies and he feels to me like he’s getting bigger.

Sa11yCinnamon · 26/06/2024 10:06

@Irishmamatobe24 mine will feed for anything from 5-45 minutes, most commonly 15-20, and anything from 1-4 hours apart. I had the same worries but he's gained a good amount of weight and plenty of wet and dirty nappies.

@PeppedUp we put less than around a pea sized amount in 50ml water! Didn't bother baby at all!

Thank you! We only had Weleda shampoo so I’ve tried that for now and if it doesn’t work I’ll give Johnson’s and Johnson’s a go x

Nelliepledge · 26/06/2024 21:29

How do you all feel about visitors? I feel so guilty saying it as everyone has been so kind but I feel like I can say it here! I resent the fact that people come over, I tidy for them to come - they then sit holding my baby for hours drinking teas and then leave dishes for me to clean up. I think people think they are helping by taking the baby off me, but I see if as all of these hours tidying and hosting where I'm not spending time with my baby and I hate it! Anyone feel the same?

SarahB88 · 26/06/2024 22:20

@Nelliepledge totally know what you mean! I don’t live far from my parents so I descend on them most days. My partners family however, they come over at inconvenient times and always expect coffee and something to eat. My baby isn’t the biggest fan of being held by my partners mum so there’s usually screaming, I just held her to myself one day because I couldn’t be arsed calming her down after. The last time they came round my partner was full of the cold, I’d had a shit sleep with the baby and he asked them not to come but they still turned up, early! My partner told me to go back to bed so I did 🙈

I had to tell my dad to stop disturbing the baby yesterday though, she’s not been getting her naps properly when I’ve been down there so we’re being a bit stricter with play times with grandpa 😂

TheBirdintheCave · 26/06/2024 23:29

@Nelliepledge We had mum staying for two weeks to help with our son when our baby was born and my brother and SIL were there too when we got home from the hospital. All of them are super helpful thankfully! Then we had my husband's parents visit later in the week and they brought us champagne and a takeaway which was fab.

Other than that we haven't really had any visitors except our Dungeons and Dragons party who come round every Wednesday. They do make a lot of washing up in terms of snack bowls though 😅

nh93 · 26/06/2024 23:31

How's everyone managing in this heat? our house is really hot as we have huge windows with the sun beaming through. fans don't help so trying to keep baby cool has been hard,
Also really worried about dehydrating
she drinks every 2-3 hours formula 2/3oz at most as she has reflux but i've been reading u can give cooled down boiled water for extra hydration, has anyone tried?

@Nelliepledge i can so relate to you, i'm nearly 4 weeks PP and just about managing our new routine as a family of 5 so when ppl ask to visit i feel bad to say but i can't be asked to clean the house and "host" even if it is JUST a cuppa.
I wish i didn't care about having the house clean but can't help it then get myself stressed and start deep cleaning on barely any sleep with a backache 😭 wish people understood and just gave us mummas time to rest and have ppl round in our own time (or not round at all) 🤣

Yourowgirl · 27/06/2024 13:43

We've been quite firm about protecting our newborn bubble, even with family. It just takes effort to host even when people set out not to be any trouble - noone has made their own cup of tea for example, but maybe I should tell them to. What with visits from the midwives and health visitors as well, leaving windows open for people coming round has impacted our time to catch up on sleep. As for the hot weather, we go out with the pram when it's cooler, have sat in the garden a couple of times and been for lunch in a pub garden once, but as well as being in newborn land we're really concerned about LO getting too warm so it's a weird adjustment for me feeling like I'm wasting the weather sat indoors most of the time. He is in just a vest or nappy at night because we really struggle to cool the room below 23 degrees.

TheBirdintheCave · 27/06/2024 15:57

@Yourowgirl I feel like I'm wasting the weather too 😭

PeppedUp · 27/06/2024 17:48

I’m with @Yourowgirl on prioritising sleep over visitors!

As for heat, our home is pretty cool so it’s not too much of a worry. I did get caught out with the sun getting all over his face in the pushchair the other day because I’d forgotten the hood doesn’t always provide enough shade.

Clarkey34 · 27/06/2024 21:01

@Nelliepledge we've been quite lucky, all our visitors haven't expected to be hosted, but then they know they can make them selves a drink if they want one, even before baby was here. I'm a rubbish host 🤣

We have quite often gone to bed for a nap while in laws or my siblings are here. No one has come to see us, so seems like prime opportunity to catch up on sleep.

I'm struggling with keeping the bedroom cool at night. It's been 26/27 degrees for the past 4 nights!! Baby is just sleeping in a vest, but I'm spending all night worrying about her being too got or too cold.

junebuglb · 27/06/2024 21:02

Flllllipping heck. Anyone had the first set of vaccinations for their bubba yet? Had ours today and I don’t know what I was expecting but she is not a happy bunny! Never heard her cry like she was this afternoon and we did a month in nicu. Pray for us tonight guys 😮‍💨

Same here! Almost everyone has brought lunch or other food, made tea, taken the baby for a walk or cuddled him while I sleep or get stuff done. I'm very house proud but my partner has been pretty good at tidying up for people coming and doing anything I ask him too so it's not been too stressful. We've had plenty days of just us, too.

Hope you've not had too bad a night @junebuglb
It is horrible hearing them cry, it's a cry I'd not heard before too.
