17 Weeks Pregnant with a Cold/Cough & Baby Movements

Hi!

I'm 17 weeks pregnant tomorrow but currently suffering from the worst cough and cold at the moment. The cough is so violent that it makes me throw up sometimes. I haven't been able to sleep the last 3 nights because of this constant cough. I can deal with the cold side - sinus, runny nose and so on but the cough is doing my head in. I'm finding it especially difficult because the only thing I can take is paracetamol which isn't helping rid this cough. Does anyone have any pregnancy safe remedies? Thanks in advance.

At 16 weeks I was sure I felt a kick and I had felt the baby move a few times. I haven't felt the baby move for the last 5 days - which is when this cough started). Can someone please give me some assurance that this cough won't harm the baby and they're probably now just hiding out the back somewhere because they're scared or something. Any assurance would be most welcome. Thank you.

It won't harm the baby at all

Baby is still small at that stage so you won't feel regular movements I felt random flutters from about 19 weeks and a couple of times a day feel some movement now at 21 weeks but it's not a lot. Midwife said don't expect regular noticeable movements until about 28 weeks. Being ill shouldn't harm the baby either it's well protected in it's own little world! It's just us that have to suffer whilst they grow and dance away in there!

Thanks @Outliers @JRTfan - I MC'd in August so I think the panic part of my head is winning of the logical and rational thinking side of my head. I just needed someone else to help reassure that this is totally normal and no need for concern at this time - and you have both done this!

I think it's because you hear midwifes say there is cause for concern when there is loss of movement - even though I know it's waaaay to early for any type of pattern to have formed. Thanks again both!

Oh I remember I went in at 19 weeks last pregnancy because I hadn’t felt baby move for a few days. They almost looked at me like I had two heads 😳 just said it was too early to feel regular movement and baby is so small it can tuck itself away.

Thanks @Rosiiee. It's so hard though isn't it? I think I may have felt some movement today although I'm not totally sure.
