Blood thinning injections to prevent preeclampsia

Just found out I'm pregnant and I've been advised to use blood thinning injections as a ell as aspirin this pregnancy due to history of severe very early preeclampsia. Has anyone taken them for this purpose? The consultant says there's no real evidence it works but in my case it wouldn't hurt. I will definitely be taking them. Any tips on how to avoid bruising? I took them for 10 days in a row and hated them! I have a high pain threshold but they really bother me.

Hey hun. I’m currently 17 weeks and been advised I’ll have 2 blood thinning injections from something like 24 weeks. I’m also taking aspirin every night til birth. Was meant to take from 12 weeks but they never informed me so only just started. Mine is to reduce the risk of pre eclampsia and premature baby x

@AimeeLou84 thanks for the reply. I think most people don't start the aspirin until 12 weeks anyway. I had preeclampsia so early just before 20 weeks last time so they said the earlier the better for me. Wishing you all the best with your pregnancy x

I’ve been taking both blood thinners and aspirin now for about a week. I’m 16w with twins and due to age, BMI and DVT in the family I was advised to take it for the duration of my pregnancy. I can’t say I love it….i actually dread doing it every evening but I just see it as a necessary part of my evening routine..a bit like brushing my teeth!

So far I’ve had one very black little bruise and a couple of other greyish ones so definitely still getting used to it so no real tips but wanted to say I know how much it sucks!

@bradpittsbathwater I had to do the injections and take aspirin when I was pregnant with my twins and with the injections I had to do them for another 6 weeks once they was born
where if u don’t mind me asking are you doing the injections ? I choose my thigh didn’t really bruise just had a little purple dot where the needle went in.

Yes I think I need to see it as part of my routine last brushing my teeth. I struggled with urging myself to stick the needle in last time and that was only 10 days.

I'm waiting for my prescription today/tomorrow. When I used it previously I injected into my thighs. I might switch between thighs and stomach! Did you manage to avoid preeclampsia or were you taking them for something else?x

@bradpittsbathwater i didn’t have preeclampsia or anything with my twins luckily other than them being born at 33wks that was it
just Did in the thigh as didn’t like the thought of injecting in my belly

No pain but this is my thigh after yesterday's first jab Shock maybe it's due to the aspirin.
