Hello all, looking for advice.
so based on my period dates I should be 7 weeks and 2 days, I had a reassurance scan today (internal) and it showed a gestational sac of less than 5 weeks and 6 days, she said the machine measures at this date and it didn’t pi k it up. She said there was signs of bleeding ect. Her advice was dates/conception could be out of sync from my period.
ive had no symptoms or bleeding ect
has anyone else had a similar situation?
thank you,

I wouldn't worry at all about this, OP.

Dating and sizing at this stage are almost always out.

Those reassurance scans never seen to be very reassuring, do they.

When you have your NHS dating scan you'll know where you are.

In exactly the same boat. Went in at 7 weeks and told I was 5 weeks 4 days with g sac and y sac but no fetal pole. However everything looked completely healthy and normal, but just not in sync with our dates.

Repeat scan is today.

Some of these stories have perfectly good outcomes and some unfortunately do not. I wish you the best of luck - stay positive!

Sorry that was supposed to say no signs of bleeding. Just a sac measuring around 9.6mm

I've just come from an early scan- I'm technically exactly 7 weeks today (based on my LMP) but measurements showed 6 weeks.

I think there are a lot of variables that can cause a difference in dates, the sonograhper did say they'll be able to tell more accurately at my 12 week NHS scan.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 10/02/2024 15:42

That early on it’s really hard to be definitive. Especially as there’s a window for implantation even if you know your ovulation day. Better to wait and have a scan in a couple more weeks

NightSkyWanderer · 10/02/2024 15:43

Early scans aren't supposed to be used to date as it's too early which is why nhs will measure you around 12 weeks. At your stage your talking mm. There's quite alot of room for error.

Also not measuring exactly means nothing. I had ivf so my dates are exact as we did icsi so we can put down the exact time and date egg and sperm fertilised and I'm still almost 1 week behind and I'm currently 17 weeks

How did your scan go? I am in the same boat too, scan not until Tuesday. Should have been 6 weeks but no yolk or fetal pole and was measuring 4 weeks she said. It's been so difficult waiting to find out.

Horrible wait isn’t it!

Have you got a follow up scan at all?

TheShellBeach · 10/02/2024 17:41

There's no point in having really early scans. They just make us more anxious! And they're not cheap.

Kittylala · 10/02/2024 17:42

It's all rubbish. Dates were wrong on all pregnancies for me - but I was correct on my dates because I know my body.

It was a private reassurance scan as I had an ectopic a few years ago, followed by a healthy pregnancy which has given me a beautiful 2 year old.
She suggested a repeat scan in 2-3 weeks, she seemed adamant it was just too early and dates were incorrect but when you’ve had a loss you can’t help that nagging feeling!

So by saying your dates were wrong did you have a positive or negative outcome?

I had positive outcomes despite the dates being not what I expected.

Hi! Dates early on are always out of sync, I went when I was meant to be 7+6 and was 6+2. Had the follow up scan at 8 weeks and all was good even though I’m meant to be 10 weeks so I’m 2 weeks out. My OB said it’s fine, as long as there’s the heartbeat and steady progression it’s all good.

The 12 week scan will give a clearer indicator on how far along you are and a more accurate due date.

My OB mentioned that the dates not matching can be due to ovulation, your cycle length etc. And like others I track my ovulation and know my body but the body works in mysterious ways.
