Bulging waters?

Anyone ever been told on a cervical exam that they have “bulging waters?”

I am 40+1 with my second and went to the hospital yesterday as it felt things were getting going and contractions closer together.

Unfortunately contractions pretty much stopped after a few hours and we went home.

I’m now 4cm dilated with very few if any contractions and have been told again that I have “bulging waters.”

Anyone had this in a pregnancy? What was your experience of this and how long afterwards did you deliver? Did you have a fast delivery?

Yes I had this with my daughter! They called them “bulging membranes” My waters never went in the end and they had to be broken. I’m assuming they were broken as she was pressing against them and couldn’t progress any further. Delivery definitely progressed after that

@HRP1990 thank you for telling me about your experience, I had never heard of it before yesterday.

I’m hoping I can progress without them needing to break my waters, and trying to get them to break by myself with bouncing on the ball etc.

Otherwise it’s induction in 7 days!

Yes I had this too. The same day I progressed to very frequent contractions at home then went into hospital and waters broke in spectacular fashion all over the floor.

Good luck bouncing on your ball!

My waters didn't break until I was 8cm gone. I never had any examinations as my midwife led center were hands off.
But wasn't an issue. Did lots of moving around in the room including "shake the apple tree" lots of movement and stairs, side stepping etc and then my waters went and then things sped up really quickly.

Had this with DD1, had a sweep on my due date and was told I was 2-3cm, could stretch to 4cm, waters bulging and she could feel the babies head, good sweep and a bloody show, labour didn't start for another 5 days, it was quick though, waters started to go at home in small gushes, contractions were 2-3 mins apart from the start, midwife was about to examine me at the hospital and my waters went properly, and she arrived five hours after the first contraction. Hope things get going for you soon :)

This sounds very much like the situation I’m in at the moment. Hoping in a few days things will progress on their own.

Thank you for sharing ❤️

@User9088 @MixedCouple

Thank you for sharing your experiences! It sounds like when waters go everything is likely to speed up quite significantly.

Planning on not travelling to far from the hospital for the next week I think 😅
