I did the 3 hr glucose test and got my results back. All readings were in range, except for the first one, before l took the sugar drink. It was 93, and the cut-off is 92 mg/GL. Now my dr has referred me to a diabetes specialist. I can’t help but wonder if this is really necessary? Can anyone diagnosed with GD share your experience - if it was borderline were you able to manage it via diet? If it makes a difference I am in Germany so not NHS.

I was diagnosed early with GD, nothing too severe but my main issue was the fasting blood sugar reading. I could manage the rest of the day with food. The problem with fasting blood sugar is that you can't really influence it with food as it is more of a hormonal thing. I ended up using insulin in the evening to control that and good nutrition during the day. I am now 34 weeks and my GD hasn't gotten much worse, still only using insulin in the evening before going to bed.

I was diagnosed with GD with my second set of twins. It was bad enough to put me on insulin in the morning and evening. I had gained about 15 pounds when it came time for the test. I so diligently watched my calorie intake that I kept losing weight. The doctor would up my calories, I would lose more weight. I ended up weighing 8 pounds less after I gave birth than when I got pregnant. LOL

Wish I was motivated to watch my food intake that closely strictly for me.
