Pregnancy after blighted ovum

Hello -

Exactly the title - I am now 5+3 following blighted ovum in June, and a “chemical” in December.

I am terrified history will repeat itself - and I have an early scan booked at 8 weeks to “rule out” blighted ovum. I’m looking for some reassurance/positive stories… We are really hoping this one is the “one”.

It’s really hard to look for signs, as I felt really nauseous and pregnant with blighted ovum which was even more cruel! these next few weeks are going to be torturous…

Hi. They never called it a blighted ovum but I had a missed miscarriage with my first pregnancy. The baby stopped growing at 5w3d. I ttc after that for 6 months and had a little girl the next year. I was so anxious and I've avoided early scans since. The lady at my 12 week scan actually asked me to come down off the ceiling and wouldn't scan me until I calmed down but I had a very easy pregnancy with her and she's 14 months now. They say the chance of having a missed miscarriage is between 1-5% so it's very unlikely to happen again. I found pregnancy affirmations really helped get me through the first 12 weeks. I'm 8 weeks with my 3rd pregnancy now

Thanks for replying!
I can’t even imagine making it to a 12 week scan, I well up at the thought of it. It seems like a distant dream… I read a 3rd miscarriage in a row is a 0.9% probability which is low but it’s not 0% so… I live in a bubble of anxiety at the moment!

I had a blighted ovum in 2013, my second pregnancy. My first pregnancy was textbook, full term etc etc 18 months beforehand. With my blighted ovum, I didn't find out until my 12 week scan that anything was wrong. It took us a while after that to conceive again. No chemicals or miscarriages or anything, just no baby, but a couple of years later I did have another pregnancy with no issues (I also had an early scan at 8 weeks as I needed to rule out another blighted ovum, but other than that I just had my NHS scans.

Good luck to you, hope all goes well for you.

I had a blighted ovum before DD1. I then got pregnant again 2 months later and she's now 4.5yrs.

Good luck!

Hi Op I had 2 miscarriages last year, 1st 1 was at 6weeks and all happened naturally. 2nd pregnancy was a blighted ovum and I also felt very sick and they found it at 8weeks. I had surgery to remove the sac and I fell pregnant again in October and I’m currently 16weeks, I have hyperemesis in this pregnancy so been very poorly but everything was ok on my early scan at 9weeks and again at 12. Wishing you all the luck it’s a stressful time after a miscarriage. X

I had a MMC in Dec 2021 and didn't find out until the 12 week scan, then had a blighted ovum and found out in Jan 2023 at an early scan which I got privately for reassurance after the MMC. I had surgical management and then feel pregnant in Sept 2023 and I'm currently 23 weeks pregnant and everything had been going well this time.
Keeping everything crossed it works out for you 🙏

I had a blighted ovum/MMC in April 23 after years of unsuccessful IVF. The clinic were actually positive about it telling me it is very likely an issue with the embryo and meant I was able to get pregnant. We tried again October 23 and I'm now 20 weeks pregnant. I have had no issues in this pregnancy including zero symptoms but it's still been a very anxious time. Reassurance scans at 6,8 and 16 weeks have helped us but it really is just a waiting game.

@Ems1992 hope the weeks have ticked by ok! Just wanted to say, I'm with you! Blighted ovum July, chemical pregnancies nov and Dec and now 6 weeks and I'm literally counting the days to the scan, second guessing every good and bad symptoms. Hope you've had/are close to your scan now and it all goes really well.

Ah! Totally missed that it's not 2024 anymore!! But very glad it all worked out well and you have a lovely little boy. Congratulations! It's so hard getting through these early days not knowing what's going on inside.
