High NT

We had our 12 weeks scan today and the NT is measuring 4.6mm we saw the genetic counselling nurse and consultant who answered lots of questions and gave a lot of information. We had the blood test which will come back Thursday with a high or low chance. We decided to wait for this result before we do any further testing although we have been told it will likely be high. We have decided to skip a NIPT test as this only test 3 chromosomes and go straight to the CVS test which will give us a full screen. Has anyone had a high NT but come back low risk or done the CVS and all has been ok? We are worried sick we are struggling with what we will do but trying to hold on to the positives.

Baby was rubbing its eyes jumping about and kicking which makes it so much harder to see what seems like a healthy little baby who may not have a good outcome.

Sending solidarity, it’s so so tough receiving unexpected news like that. We were in the same situation this time last year with a NT of 6.3mm. We were given some pretty bleak odds of a 50% chance of a genetic problem and 30% chance of a structural problem.
Bloods showed a 1:5 chance of DS and 1:42 chance of Edwards or Pataus syndrome. I chose to have an amniocentesis which came back as normal with the extended genetic testing also normal. We now have a healthy 6 month old. The waiting was awful and it felt particularly hard as like you we’d seen the baby moving and waving on scan. For me
I knew that if our baby had DS I’d want to carry on with the pregnancy, and found lots of useful info about local services and support which did make me feel more positive and hopeful, but it’s a very individual decision and only you know what’s right for your family. Sending solidarity and really hope you have positive news soon.

I think that's a great response @Teamrofl
Thinking of you @Cath47890
I've been through something similar and it really does tip your world upside down
I can suggest contacting the Antenatal Screening Results charity, they were fantastic with me.

Thank you so much this gives me so much hope I’ve read lots of forums of it being ok for people so just hoping and praying. So glad to hear you had a healthy baby ❤️

Hi, I went through this 9 years ago. My baby had a high nt if 5.9mm. We were taken into a small room and advised to terminate the pregnancy. I had a 1:5 chance of Down’s Syndrome. We were heartbroken. My daughter is now 8 and will be 9 in June. Born healthy with no problems at all. While I was pregnant I read so much and definitely read more about positive outcomes than negative. I hope the results are just as good for you.

Cath47890 · 08/02/2024 06:59

@Rachel458 thank you so much I’ve been reading loads of positive stories.
Our Cubs result came back 1/23 for Down Syndrome and low risk for Edward’s or Pataus we have decided to do the CVS so we know for definite but we talked out all our options and feel Down syndrome wouldn’t be the worst case so even if baby is diagnosed we will continue with the pregnancy. I feel so much happier knowing that baby should at least get to term so we can have our family if 4 even if it looks a bit different x

Hi,
I had my scan a few days ago and my NT is measuring 5.5 mm, the consultant told me it’s not looking good she didn’t like what she was seeing. It was such devastating news! They offered me the CVS test straight away and I had a blood test among the others that I already had, so I just have to wait for the results now.
Im 45 this year so I knew there would be a high risk but you don’t expect it to happen to you, I’m just praying it will be ok.

We were offered the cvs straight away but decided to wait for the blood tests. Thankfully it was low risk for Edward’s and Pataus but 1/24 chance for Down Syndrome. It’s not the worst news but we are 27 with a 2 year old so it won’t be easy if baby does have DS. I read load of forums on here of people with much higher readings or lower chances and having healthy babies. I would say try to stay positive and keep looking at your chances as not that bad for us we keep think it’s 1/24 but that’s 23 people who wouldn’t have it! We have our CVS on Tuesday and were told we will have initial results by Thursday. Praying all will be ok for you!

I have read some positive stories on here so I’m feeling a bit more reassured.
Praying it will ok for you too ❤️ it’s really helpful to read about other people’s experiences.

Rachel458 · 12/02/2024 17:24

I was also offered the cvs test but the baby was too close to the placenta. I decided not to have any more invasive tests as we had decided that if the baby had Down’s syndrome we wouldn’t terminate. We did have a lot of scans and detailed heart scans. My baby went to full term and was 8lbs 11oz.

Hi all,
I just wanted to update on my previous post.
unfortunately my CVS came back positive for Downs Syndrome, we decided that the best decision for us was to terminate the pregnancy which has been the hardest decision to make.
we are both 45 this year and feel that it’s for the best considering our age, we feel it would not be fair to continue with the pregnancy.
This is not the best news to post but it may help someone in a similar situation to know that they’re not alone.
Sending lots of love and luck to anyone that is going through this ❤️

MrsScotland · 15/02/2024 12:40

@YourDenimSquid I am so sorry to hear this. I had to post as I felt the same, I knew it was a risk but I was optimistic we would be ok, as much as I was worried about it. We had a couple of private scans at 9 and 11 weeks and all looked good so we went into our 12 week scan excited about being able to share our news. I was honestly oblivious that the sonographer was quiet, I thought that was normal. Eventually she said the baby's NT was high and she went to find a consultant. Everyone was in theatre so we had to come back 48 hours later. I asked what the measurement was and when she said 8mm I just knew in my heart it wasn't going to be ok.

It took two weeks for us to get an appt at Fetal Medicine and in the meantime we had a NIPT. It came back high risk for T18 (Edwards). We terminated that week, at 14 weeks. It broke my heart but I bounced back within a few weeks. I think about it all day everyday and just hope we get another chance - I was 38 when this happened and turn 40 at the end of this year.

Our initial CVS results came back today and baby is clear of the trisomy’s. They’ve sent the cvs for additional tests just to check and I’ll have additional scans but they said it’s looking far more positive! We also found out baby is a girl from the test 🩷

Hi,
it is so heartbreaking 💔 I knew when she went quiet that something was wrong, like you we were so excited about sharing our news with everyone.
I really hope you get a second chance, sending lots of luck 🍀
I had the implant fitted as I feel I can’t go through that again but I have a 22 year old son so can look forward to grandchildren 😊

It’s exhausting but try and stay positive it really helped us. The rest of our genetic screen came back normal so we are just waiting for detailed scans at 16 and 20 weeks to check baby is progressing well. Praying for you and your baby xx

What was the outcome of you guys having high NT? Currently going through this !!
