Not progressing? Second pregnancy

Hi all, I’m hoping others may be able to share their experiences so I feel a bit less alone at this stage of pregnancy. Apologies if this is a bit long.

This is my second pregnancy. I am now 39+5. To be frank, I’m utterly fed up and starting to feel quite defeated.

My first pregnancy DD was born at 38+2 after my waters broke and then nothing really happened for 30 hours and I needed oxytocin. When I arrived for the induction I was 2cm dilated and had a few very mild period style cramps that had begun that morning. I sort of assumed that my second pregnancy would be around a similar length (about 38 weeks or so).

This time around, I’ve had two sweeps. One at 39 where I was 1cm and cervix had started to efface (+/-25% effaced), and a second 48 hours later at 39+2 where I was then 3cm and more like 75% effaced. The midwife said that things looked really promising and managed to do a good stretch as well as a sweep.

Baby is partially engaged but not completely.

I’ve had the odd bit of back pain and lower abdominal cramping since the second sweep, as well as some nausea, and needing to open my bowels a lot but nothing seems to be progressing or regular.

I’ve been walking, bouncing on a medicine ball, squats, moving around as much as I can and still nothing.

Just wanting to hear if any one else has had experiences like this? How long did it take before they got to meet their baby or went into active labour?

Any experiences/thoughts/ words/encouragement appreciated.

Thank you.

I know it feels impossible in the moment but there is no rush.

Are you 39+2 now? The baby isn’t even late until 42 weeks! That’s considered full term in France.

The best thing you can do is carry on as usual and let it happen when it happens, trust your body.

I went in too early after being fed up of 8 days of this kind of latent labour, labour stalled once in because I went too early, ended up with a cascade of interventions and ultimately an EMCS.

The end feels like the longest part in pregnancy.
You’re doing all the right things, just try keep yourself busy and rest with a film when you can (I know it’s hard when you’ve already got a little one at home)

@Preggopreggo thank you for your reply. I’m 39+5 at the moment, I’m trying to remain chilled out and carry on as usual as best as possible today because I think the more I stress about the more I’m making things difficult for myself. I’m trying to stay out of hospital as long as possible!

@Hiddenvoice Thank you for responding. Plan today is to relax and chill out to stay as relaxed as possible.
I know I won’t have too much longer left, but the end of pregnancy really does feel like the longest!
