Private scan measuring 5w5d, nhs scan 4 days later measuring 5w4d. Is that an error, normal or not looking good? I know measurements can be wrong but no growth over 4 days?

Was there a heartbeat? Is there a reason for the very early scans like bleeding or something?

The embryo is so tiny at this gestation, it's normal to be out by a few days. I think this is why they recommend leaving more time between scans, 4 days is not enough time to to absorb any inaccuracies or decrepancies between sonographers ect. Unless there's a reason for such frequent scanning I would leave it 1-2 weeks. By that point a heartbeat should definitely be visable.

machines at private clinics vs nhs clinics are different. i work in sonography (private) and my early scans i did on myself were always a few days ahead of the 2 early scans i had with nhs. private scan dates ended up being the more accurate ones

@TeaKitten @Chasingbaby2 @strawberryswizzler by lmp I would have been 7 weeks so had an early private scan which dates me 5w5d but I have longer cycles so doesn’t sound too bad right? However, no heartbeat was found (I know it’s too early) and the private clinic advised me to follow up with nhs. Nhs scanned me and put me as 5w4d, said everything looked good but still no heartbeat. I’m just worrying that baby has stopped growing and that’s why measurements are showing nearly the same after 4 days between? I guess baby is really tiny so it’s hard to tell, both were done transvaginal too. The nhs didn’t want to look at the private scan report as they take their own findings so wouldn’t answer any questions about no growth. I have a rescan booked on Wednesday which would be 8 days from the last scan but I’m terrified that’s there been no growth. I should see growth then surely? Thank you for your comments.

Hello

If I were you I wouldn’t compare private and nhs scans, as previously stated they use different equipment so I don’t think in that sense there’s anything to worry about

i also think not seeing the heartbeat is nothing to worry about yet

the key is if the embryo has grown at all at your follow up scan

ive literally just had it happen to me where I went for an early scan at what should have been 6 weeks, embryo measured 5+5 no heartbeat

went back a week later and embryo did have a heartbeat by this point but had only progressed to measuring 6w, so around 2 days growth over 7 days

I ended up miscarrying

not trying to scare you but when I was looking for guidance I appreciated honesty

I’m sure your pregnancy Will be absolutely fine though, so long as there’s progress with your babies growth at the next scan I’m sure you’ll be fine. But only judge based on the same equipment ie. Compare your follow up nhs scan only to the new nhs one as private ones will measure differently

i was told even if baby measures behind what you expect as long as there’s growth progression all good

take care
Wishing you all the best

Kerry

Hello thank you for you message and sorry for your loss. Unfortunately there was no growth and deemed a missed miscarriage back in Feb. 3 surgeries later and I’m okay now. However I am now 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant now, have a scan booked at 8 weeks and 4 days to avoid confusion this time but the anxiety is crazy!
