anyone know anything about loosing waters at 16 weeks and giving birth to healthy baby?

a friend of mine has lost her waters at 16 weeks, baby not in distress, she has now got to 20 weeks but there is very little water it has not replenished.

what are the implications of this for the baby if (I hope) they manage to keep baby in for long enough for him/her to be delivered safely?
