5w4d no hb??

I had a private scan (lmp 7w1d) but measured 5w5d which isn’t unusual as I have long cycles. No hb but fetal Pole and yolk sac seen. I was referred to epu who scanned me yesterday and measured me as 5w4d, no hb but he said everything looks good and as it should. I’ve been booked for another EPU scan in a week to either confirm miscarriage or see progress with baby. I guess I’m looking for other people that have been through this so I can get a clearer picture. I haven’t had pain or bleeding either which they said is good! TIA

I would say that's a bit early to see a heartbeat. Most private places won't see you til at least 6 weeks and even then it might be hard to see. If you think it's possible to be 5w rather than 7 then i think it is just normal and doesn't mean anything. fingers crossed for you.

Hi - in my last pregnancy the heartbeat was seen at 8 weeks (calculated from the last period) and at the scan the measurements were 6w1d. I did later miscarry at 10 weeks (post missed cycle) so 2 weeks later.

It is possible to see the heartbeat after 6 weeks and that is very normal

I thought I was 7 weeks due to lmp without realising longer cycles can change that. I’m just worried as the measurements at the private scan and nhs scan are similar but doesn’t seem like baby had grown over 4 days but then the sonography for nhs did say that the private scan measurements didn’t seem spot on and could have been different position. Thank you, I’m just really hoping for a good outcome 🙏

@RMCx3 sorry to hear that! I hope I’m just eating early and hoping to see growth and possibly a heartbeat next week. Just a week seems so far away. I think it’s the fact there was two scans with similar measurements and no signs of growth after 4 days but nhs wouldn’t compare and like to off there own…

I don't have any experience of positive outcomes for you, but from reading other posts, I have read that growth can happen a bit later than what would be expected when calculating ourselves. Sending positive vibes for you and wish you all the best with the next scan x

DS1 didn't have a hb at 6+2. He sits is GCSE's next year.
DS2 had a hb at 6+0.
Scan
5+4 is quite early. Are you less than 2 weeks after you would have expected a bleed? That would help date where you might expect to be dates wise

loopyloos · 31/01/2024 14:00

On Saturday I would’ve been 2 weeks from first day of expected missed period from my apps. Thank you for this. It’s reassuring :)

OK, so on Saturday, you would expect to be 6 weeks - beause the whole system assumes 4 weeks cycles. That makes 5+4 today sound very plausible. And also early to detect a heartbeat.
The next week is going to be long, but it all seems to add up, and doesn't suggest issues.

fortifiedwithtea · 31/01/2024 14:11

As I had a previous ectopic pregnancy I was scanned very early purely to make sure foetus was in the right place. I don’t remember the days but I do remember it was before 6 weeks. It was wasn’t a proper heartbeat, just looked like a bunch of cells quivering which I found quite upsetting for some reason. That baby is now 21 years old.

hope all goes well for you OP

newname67 · 31/01/2024 14:52

If you did ovulate later and you are only 5w4d that would be normal for no hb. I had a scan during that week with NHS to check location and then a scan the following week to check hb started. Good luck

Jonesy88 · 31/01/2024 15:34

In both my pregnancies I was behind where I thought I was even with regular cycles. Rescanned 2 weeks later (felt like an eternity) with both and heart beats found.

loopyloos · 31/01/2024 15:48

Really hope this is the same for me🤍🤞🏼

I had IVF this year and they didn’t do the viability scan until 8weeks as before that is often too early to to detect.

Christmas202 · 31/01/2024 16:40

on both of my pregnancies I was measuring behind. My cycle is all over the place. My eldest will be 11 in 12 days. We’re trying for the last one as well 🙈

loopyloos · 31/01/2024 16:53

@Jonesy88 this is so reassuring, thank you 🙏 I’m only waiting another week and it feels like forever already!

@Christmas202 Thank you for your comment, I’m really hoping it’s that! Good luck, baby dust to you lovely! X

My lmp put me as 7 weeks but dates are out. (Well that’s what we’re hoping) Lesson learnt for next time, book when I’m 8 or 9 weeks! I do feel like private scans before then give more anxiety rather than reassurance, I know you don’t need to see a hb that early but it just gives that extra bit of reassurance so seems cruel to do it before then!
