Pee or amniotic fluid?

I’m currently 38 weeks with my first. This has happened twice now in the last week where I’ve had a wee then a little trickle more comes after it. Could this be a waters leak?

I managed to catch some and my partner said the tissue smelled neutral and not like pee, but it’s such a tiny amount when this has happened that I don’t know if I’m being overly cautious to go to triage?

It’s most likely pee if it’s when you’re going to the loo. I was told to rock when peeing to fully empty my bladder. Due to baby’s head it often means your bladder doesn’t fully empty.

Waters will continue to leak when you’re standing. Triage will tell you to pop a pad in to see if it’s wet.

however, if you’re concerned I’d go to triage to be checked out. If it is waters, they’ll need to monitor due to risk of infection. It’s much better to be safe and get any concerns checked.

Go and get checked. I had my hind waters go and it was like this. I told my midwife and she just told me it must be pee, I knew it wasn't as it had been in bed and I'd had 0 episodes of wetting myself. It smelled of nothing and I have a good nose for pee! In the end I had reduced movements, went to hospital, they confirmed hind waters had gone and immediately broke my waters properly put on the drip as it had been more than 24 hours and they needed baby out. This was at 42 weeks though. 10 years later I'm still so angry at the midwife for refusing to check and treating me like a silly child who wet themselves.

Amniotic fluid smells really sweet. I compare it to pear drops. And you wouldn't have to hold a tissue to your nose to smell it because it's quite strong and distinctive.

Just in case anyone is reading this thread and worried.

That said, if suspicious, it's always best to go get it checked out.
