Hi,

I had a private scan on Wednesday at 10 weeks 4 days. Due to 2 previous pregnancies ending in early miscarriage.

The sonographer said she was happy with everything but I noticed something behind the baby’s neck which I asked about she then explained that it was Nuchal translucency and went on to explain what this could mean. She said she wouldn’t measure it as it isn’t measured until 11 weeks. However, for me it seemed very noticeable and quite big compared to others I’ve been researching. I’m going out of my mind with worry.and the thought of the potential it could be breaks me. Is there anyone who has gone through similar and can offer some advice?!

has anyone been in a similar position at around 10 weeks but then come there 12/13 week scan the fluid has reduced?

I was about 12 weeks at first scan and NT measured over what was considered normal, went back 2 weeks later and it had reduced to normal. I think that's why they don't measure until 12 weeks as it does normally reduce.

Thankyou so much for responding. I’m just really panicked and been searching high and low for answers and scans to compare too and just feel like mine does seem big in comparison and I so concerned and scared

My baby’s head looks like yours - scan is similar except my baby doesn’t have both legs clear (although midwife friend says they’re there)

I got the scan at 10w5d and also the NIPT for chromosomal issues, my results came back the lowest possible chance - so maybe that makes you feel better

Also remember that everything is teeny tiny at this stage so things can seem big that are actually really small! I dug out my scan pic from my 12 week scan and the NT takes up quite a big proportion of the baby. I can't remember the exact measurement now but at the time I was really worried about it. It was considered over the 'normal' range at that point but was smaller each time I had a scan and everything was absolutely fine in the end!

Thankyou for responding. In my scan the area of fluid just seems very noticeable to look at which is what I’m worrying about as they said they don’t measure until 11 weeks but at my scan I wasn’t only a few days from 11 weeks so to me I’m really panicking that it surely won’t change that much in the space of a few day

Hi Everyone,

I had my first scan yesterday, the baby was 11+6 yesterday and everything was fine apart from the NT which was 3.5mm.

I have then done a blood test and been referred to another unit but I have to wait 1-2 weeks before hearing back and my anxiety level is going up.

Has anyone else had the same problem? how did it turn out? I am trying to do as many research as I can but I feel it would make me feel and prepare better if I could hear someone else’s story too.

@sabrixx I am in a similar situation. I am 13w 2d. I had my scan 2 days again and everything seemed fine expect for the NT level was 3.8mm. I am waiting for the blood results to come through. I have also been referred to John Radcliffe for another scan. My anxiety is through the roof!! After 2 healthy boys, this is a big shock!!

Any update on your pregnancy? Hope all is going well

12 week scan today 6mm NT. Have an appointment for a further scan another hospital on Friday. I’m terrified as I was told there’s a high possibility of Downs, Edward’s Syndrome, Patau syndrome and cardio issues. Please has anyone else had 6mm result and can tell me their outcome? Thanks

primrose1234 · 22/10/2024 21:11

My little one's NT was 3.8mm at my 13 week scan. They told me there was a 1 in 18 chance of Down Sydrome and possible heart issues. Currently sat here feeding my 6 week old baby girl who is completely perfect and healthy.

I can't remember exactly what the measurement was but I had a scan at about 10 and a half weeks when I was getting the NIPT and my obstetrician commented about the NT measurement but said 'it doesn't mean much at this stage as it'll reduce in the next couple of weeks and we'll measure it properly at your next appointment'

By 13 weeks when I had my next scan it was 1.9mm but it was definitely 2+ a couple of weeks earlier so she was right about it reducing
