Chance of second missed miscarriage

Does anyone know if you are at higher risk of having a missed miscarriage if you've already had one?

My history:

Pregnancy 1 - small amount of bleeding, scan at 7 weeks all fine, but identical twins. Small amount of brown bleeding one day after scan. Scan at 12 weeks showed babies died shortly after 7 week scan.

Pregnancy 2 - ectopic.

Pregnancy 3 - scan at 7 weeks showed baby is in the right place and heart was beating. Currently 8+6 and no bleeding so far.

I am just so terrified of history repeating itself. Neither the early pregnancy unit or midwife seem interested in scanning me any earlier than 12 weeks. I just can't imagine ever getting a sucessful 12 week scan and I'm going out of my mind with worry.

Am surprised that you haven't been offered an early scan given your history, but I don't think that the risk is increased by having had a mmc before.

Can totally understand your worry though, having had a mmc myself. I was offered an early scan in my next pregnancy (which was successful).

Could you ask for blood tests (2 taken 48 hours apart) to check for rising hcg levels?

Jess - you've had a scan at 7 weeks and have seen a heartbeat? I think taht significantly reduces the risk of having a miscarriage, but as you knwo, there are no guarentees.

Is ther any way you can get another scan at 10 weeks or so? Reassurance is very important at this stage.

Early pregnancy unit said they don't do reassurance scans. I had my booking appt on Tuesday and the midwife said she would ask for me to have an early booking scan, but she didn't seem confident that it would actually happen. I could have a private scan at 10 weeks, but my first mmc was identified at a private scan and I'm so scared that history is repeating itself.

If it's any comfort Jess I have been in the same situation as you (practically identical). I am now pregnant after 2 unsuccessful attempts (12 wks 2 days) and I can't describe how nervous we were last week when we had a scan at 11.5 weeks - I was a nervous wreck - but all was fine - strong heartbeat and a fair bit of movement which is good apparently. My consultant said that chances of the pregancy continuing are now 98%. Mentally I too have never got past 11 weeks before so this was a huge landmark! I also had a scan at 7 weeks which showed as yours did a heartbeat and healthy sac/yolk etc so think positive - everything is looking great

Poor thing. I had a mmc so I know what you are going through. This time round I had a scan at 6 weeks which showed all was fine and I saw the heart beat but I cannot get out of my mind that it might all go wrong again. I know, as I am sure you do, that it doesn't help to worry but I just can't help it. Every little change in symptoms causes panic. Roll on 12 weeks!

I to had a mmc in Oct 07, found out when I had my 12 week scan and am now 8-9 weeks pg.

I had a scan at 8 wks due to some pinkish blood but all seemed ok.

I am having brown discharge at the moment so like you am terrified. 12 weeks seem to take forever.

It annoys me when people say "you cant change what will happen".

I think I am about 8 - 9 weeks too. It is reassuring to know there are other people in the same boat out there.
