False positive test

Please help😭 Is this a fake positive?!
I am 4 days late for my period. I took a clearblue digital test with my 2nd morning wee which showed 1-2 weeks. Through out the day I have taken other tests which show negative!!!

I'd test again tomorrow with FMU. 4 days late is still relatively early so it's possible that the HCG levels later in the day are not high enough to trigger a positive.

Lou2455 · 23/01/2024 18:05

Thank you for responding. I have been going out my mind all day 🥲 hard to believe a positive test when I have had 6 negative!
I cant find much information on false positives other than chemical pregnancies.

False positives are rare rare things i was told they aren't really possible by my Gp much more likely to be a false negative. Test again first thing in the morning maybe ?

Lou2455 · 23/01/2024 18:15

Thank you! I spoke to two people on phone earlier, one told me its not possible another told me it is :\
I will get another test for the morning :)

It's very rare to get false positives (as the positive result can only be triggered by the specific hormone), whereas early negatives are very common. Leave it a couple of days and test again. My guess is it will be positive.

Nameychango · 23/01/2024 18:37

I feel for you, this is tricky and definitely repeat tomorrow. I wondered whether the test was out of date? I have no idea whether that may affect it but I know with other tests such as urine dips etc, they can give strange readings if out of date and the test strip which is in the digital machine may have degraded a bit? Just a thought but I feel for you with the uncertainty! I used to buy a lot of tests back in the day but the digital have always been accurate in my experience

Lou2455 · 23/01/2024 18:44

It’s very confusing! All the tests used today were purchased today, so unfortunately cant be that. I also thought the digital tests were very accurate so I was shocked to have a positive and negative although they were from different wee samples.

I've had a false positive. I had a blood test within the hour, I was that excited, which tests the specific amount of the exact same hormone the pee test checks, and it showed definitely negative. I did another (few!) pee tests after the blood test, before I got results back the next day and they were all negative. The first test must have just been triggered by something else other than pregnancy.

HalloumiGeller · 23/01/2024 19:15

You can't have a false positive, not unless maybe you had a recent miscarriage and still have some hormones in your body? If not, then HCG isn't produced unless you're pregnant soooo....

I tested 4 days overdue for my period and I was positive, so it's not too early to test at all. But do make sure it's your first pee of the day for the most accurate result 🙂

Lou2455 · 23/01/2024 19:19

Oh my! sorry to hear this happened to you :(
If you don't mind me asking what test did you get a false positive?
It seems we cant trust tests!!

I have had no recent miss carriage so I shouldn't have any previous HCG levels!
My minds going crazy that tests can show up so differently, if tomorrow morning one is negative I will be even more head fried!

OK, I'd do one in the morning using your first wee of the day when you're 5 days overdue, as this will give you the most accurate result🙂

PickledScrump · 23/01/2024 21:22

your urine was more diluted so the hug wasn’t strong enough to show. You’re still early so don’t stress about it. There must have been hcg for the digital to pick up. Clearblue line tests are rubbish though, stick to pink dye. Boots own early results are the best you can get. Congratulations

Lou2455 · 23/01/2024 21:31

Thank you everyone. I will update tomorrow after I have tested again. I have got a digital and two pink dye :)

Did you use different pee for these tests?

Lou2455 · 23/01/2024 21:59

Yes, all different wee. I wish I had used the same for them all but I wasn't expecting a positive so it threw me off a bit haha

Olika · 23/01/2024 22:01

I think you might actually be pregnant and the others didn't show it as per was too diluted. Agree with the others to try with first morning pee. Good luck! 🤞🏼

Lou2455 · 24/01/2024 06:55

Looks like yesterdays test was a false positive.. Iv done two this morning and negative. Im really confused and worried as I haven't come on period yet.

Odd. I had some months when my periods came 1 week late but then returned back to my normal cycle. I suppose you can just wait and see what happens.

It seems we cant trust tests!!

It was an easy at home cheap strip test. It tests hCG just the same as clear blue and all the other pregnancy tests. No recent miscarriage and I didn't need line eyes, it was clear pink line. I was so excited I got a hcg blood test which came back as less than 2 IU/L. I took an easy at home OPK at the same time, which measures LH and it showed an LH peak, I was ovulating.

This is the only time I've ever had a false positive. The easy at home tests seem very reliable and accurate usually. Although usually an OPK will show positive when you're pregnant, a pregnancy test does not show positive just when you're ovulating and have an LH surge so I can't explain it. It did this one time for me 🤷‍♀️. There was either something wrong with the sample or the test. But as the blood test didn't detect hcg then I trust that more, and I didn't end up getting pregnant that month.

Thanks for the response! That must of been so frustrating for you, tests are such a pain & not exactly cheap either :(
I trusted the digital test but now I have had negative digital I don't haha

I spoke to doctor earlier who was very unhelpful. Read off guidelines & told me that as I had a positive I will likely misscarry soon but I miss another period to call back :/
