Hi all,
I wanted to jump on to give a little hope to those of you who are undergoing tests for an expected ectopic prenancy / pregnancy of unknown location (PUL).
I had an ectopic pregnancy 10 years ago which resulted in the removal of my left fallopian tube an I went of to have a successful pregnancy.
My husband an I started trying again had a positive test the first week of Jan but I had very bad period like cramps and given my history, the Dr's were concerned I was having another ectopic so they investigated:
The first step was a scan which showed loads of unexpected problems like fibroids, hemorrhagic cysts and severe scar tissue and adenoymosis.. but it also showed an empty sac.. the sonigrpaher explained this could be a very early pregnancy (from my dates I should have been 6+1) or she said it could be a pseudopregancy which is just a sac with fluid in an can be a bi product of an ectopic.
They explained that they would do 3 sets of blood tests, and that they would expect to see my HCG levels double every 48hrs..
So first test my levels were 1048.. 2 days later they were 1304 and a further 2 days later, they were 1673...this was an average increase of around 29%.. in 'normal pregnancies my provider expected to see an increase of atleast 60% but this wasn't the case so a scan was booked for 1 week after the first one.
We had a consultation first and they pretty much prepared me for the worst. My consultant said in levels which increase as low as mine, the outcome usually isn't very good, but she did see things all the time which surprised her..
Anyway, we have the scan an staring at us on the screen was a very clear little jelly bean shaped blob with a heavy heartbeat..
I don't know who was more shocked, me or the consultant!
So it's very early days but after reading so many studies an reviewing the threads on here I fully anticipated bad news so this is just to say don't for those going through the same worries.. don't give up hope as you just never know xx
