39 weeks - tightenings?

Hi all

I went to Maternity Triage today as I was concerned about baby’s movements so they put me on monitoring. She’s fine. When they looked at the screen, they said I was experiencing ‘tightenings’ which were basically mild contractions. They sent me home as they said nothing could still happen for days or they could just stop.

I should have asked more questions when I was there. Has anyone experienced this before and can tell me their experience of what happened and if they went into labour anytime soon after?

It’s my second child but the first time I was induced and then it all happened very quickly and I was having strong contractions close together so have never experienced this before. Really don’t want to be induced again so I’m hoping this is the start of natural labour.

Thanks

I went in to triage at 39 weeks with my first for reduced movements, all was fine and they also commented that they could see tightenings on the monitor. I was told that at that gestation mild tightenings are very common because your body is gearing up for labour, but it doesn't necessarily mean labour is imminent I'm afraid (sorry I know that's probably not what you want to hear!). I went into labour naturally 2 weeks later at 41 weeks.
I hope baby doesn't keep you waiting much longer and you have a positive delivery experience xx
