Any older mums out there who decided against screening?

I am 39 and 12 weeks pg and booked in for a NT scan tomorrow. Have been having second thoughts about having any screening at all and wondered if any older mums out there felt or feel similar?

Hi All
Had scan -not a great result I'm afraid I am high risk for my age at 1:39. The scan was amazing though as we saw so much!!! The consulant is 75% I am having a girl and she looks beautiful!! Lots of spinning around and waving - all very emotinal. I am trying to remain positive about the results despite the obvious initial shock and disappointment. Anyone got any feedback on friends or own experiences of similar results???

that means you have 38 out of 39 chances that your baby will be fine....that isn't a bad scan at all

this sort of result is precisely why I refused screening at 37.

hi babycakes - sorry no experience but like you said your baby looks beautiful - sounds to me like you've made your decision!
and i'm sure she'll be beautiful and perfect -
good luck.

Agggg that's why I hate these tests that give you a probability not a yes or no

This may put it into perspective www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/antenatalhealth/scans/nuchalscan/#16

It is a higher risk than most women of your age BUT if you look at the different scales there are I have found at least 3 different ones all used in the UK

You will think your baby is fab whatever she/he is like. Don't get too used to the idea that it is a girl though as it is sometimes wrong at 20 weeks let alone 12 weeks.

Thx for that Kaz - measurement was 2.2mm so just outside of normal range. Reading your link was encouraging x

Hey Maxbear the consultant also told me its not guaranteed to be a girl - it's just a nice change from 'it' - I won't be going out and buying any pink though on the basis of this haha

I'm 40 next month and 33 weeks gone with my second. With both my pregnancies I refused the tests because I knew no matter what they came back with I could never abort. I had an abortion years ago and I have never forgiven myself. I used to work in a College where one student was severely disabled from birth, she could raise a smile in anyone and to be honest if I was her Mother I would have been damned proud. I just think as long as my baby is loved and be capable of love, thats enough for me.
