Raspberry sized Blood Clot after wiping, currently in latent labour, should I be concerned?

Hi all
First time mum here, currently 40w+3

I've been having some contractions/latent early labour contractions since about 1.30am on Wednesday. They were all over the place, then the occasional pattern, then all over the place again.

This morning around 2am there was defintely more of a pattern forming so I called Triage, the woman suggested waiting another couple hrs before coming in, as she wanted me to be having 3-4 1 minute long contractions within a 10 min period.

So I waited and pushed through some very uncomfortable contractions until it got closer to the pattern she mentioned, I called them back around half 4 and just said that they were getting very uncomfortable now and they said come in for an assessment.

I went in around 5am, checked baby heart beat, my blood pressure, my temp, my urine etc all normal.
Then I had a sweep and I was ONLY 1CM DIALATED (I really thought I'd be more than 1cm as it was more uncomfortable than I thought it would be at this stage.)

Anyway I got sent home because they wanted me to be at least 3 or 4cm before keeping me in, and I want the epidural as soon as possible.

I was told to come back in if waters break, if I bleed (no mention of clots though) or if contractions are 4 in a 10 min period.

The contractions are much more painful now, more sharp and stabby feeling, and I basically can't move or talk during them.

I went to the toilet and wiped about an hour after getting home and had some reddish brown tinges in clear discharge, I read this was normal after a sweep.

Then another hour later I had some brighter red splotches in clear discharge, I assumed this was my bloody show.

Each time I've wiped since it's been pinkish red like the last days of a period, but with clearish discharge still.

However just now I wiped and out came quite a big blood clot, it looked like a raspberry that had been squashed. But it was darker red.

Is this something I should be concerned about or is this relatively normal at this stage?

To add, my waters have not broken yet, and I've been losing chunks of my mucus plug the past few days.

You’ve got a number for midwife or the ward?

Please call them not mumsnet

Borracha · 18/01/2024 16:56

I wouldn’t be wildly panicking but I would be calling the midwife/labour ward.

caveat: I’m not a doctor

best of luck! X

WhatAFoolishFool · 18/01/2024 16:56

please call the hospital for advice.

LolaJ87 · 18/01/2024 16:58

I would think it's part of your show but I'd be going back in there to get checked.

Mummapenguin20 · 18/01/2024 17:13

I’d go back

LambriniBobinIsleworth · 18/01/2024 17:26

That looks like the bloody show I had about 5hrs before my eldest was born. I'd go back to triage I think.

Hi, I had similar with my first. Callled the hospital and they asked me to go in. I kept bleeding through labour but all was fine. When I say bleeding - it only tended to happen with each contraction.

Hope all goes well for you

I started to pass blood when I got to almost 10cm and then on after, I'd go back incase youre close and even if they only check you x

holycrabsticks · 18/01/2024 18:20

Get off bloody mumsnet and call triage!

Whiskeypowers · 18/01/2024 18:29

You need to get back to hospital

Janey3090 · 18/01/2024 20:36

this looks like my bloody show after I had a sweep done in Labour (I was 2cm at the time and was also sent home.) DD was then born 4 hours later.

Therefore try not to panic but do PLEASE ring the hospital to check x
