Twins - measurements help!

CB2805 · 17/01/2024 18:32

Hi,
I just had a private scan today and I’m meant to be 13w5d.
So one of the twins was measuring 13w4d and the other one 13w0d(although that twin seamed to be a bit curled up)
ive had lots of scans already as it’s an IVF pregnancy and due to some bleeding and baby A was always measuring spot on on my dates and baby B always 2 days behind.
This time baby A is one day behind and baby B nearly 5days.
Question is should I be worried that something’s wrong? Could the measurements be a bit off especially if baby B was curled up?
did that happen to anyone?
Sonographer was not concerned and believed that is completely normal but it’s first time happening!

Hi @CB2805 this happened to my twins when they couldn’t get the measurements properly on the following scan everything was good I guess if the babies don’t wanna play ball when you have scan lol my boys was always moving and in different positions where they could t get measurements properly….now they are healthy 6 month olds

CB2805 · 17/01/2024 19:11

@Twimum23 oh bless you🫶🏻 honestly they told me to not stress about it as the positioning can determine everything but I can’t help it😅 I’m gonna get another scan next week just to make sure🤭

Yeah I wouldn’t stress if the bubbas don’t wanna play ball u can’t help it lol I think on one of my scan even the weight was really off coz of the way they was sat

CB2805 · 17/01/2024 19:28

@Twimum23 when do they start measuring weight? Sorry first pregnancy so I’m a bit clueless what to expect.
also as you had twins how was your monitoring with NHS? I’m having my first consultant appointment next week but I’ve been told to not have high hopes from other ladies😶
I’ve been having bleeding and spotting through out this pregnancy without an apparent reason given so far and everyone just brush it off with not to worry which is annoying

@CB2805 I don’t know how your scans go but mine have a weight and measurements each time I had a scan and I was under the fetal medicine team and had scans every two weeks
I had bleeding at the start and because these are my first I was worried that something was going wrong but when I went to be checked they said there was nothing to worry about coz there was no clots or anything and it did stop I was booked in for a c section at I think 36wks coz I was having identical twins but they decided to come at 33wks

CB2805 · 17/01/2024 21:56

@Twimum23 i haven’t had any further scan with NHS than my NT scan, one and only so far. I guess after I meet with my consultant the ball will start rolling. Thank you for the info tho🫶🏻

@CB2805 yeah I don’t think it was till a few scans in that the weight started as the babies started growing they could work the weight out each time….the amazing thing I had was when my second come came out he was still in the sack and the theater team said that rare that happens and my first his bag popped out they took him out…only a minute difference

Toucs · 18/01/2024 09:43

Hi @CB2805 do you know what type of twins you're having (identical or fraternal)? If they're identical you'll be scanned every 2 weeks from 16 weeks and if fraternal I think every 4 weeks. Mine are identical and often slightly different sizes, and agree with PP that I think it's often difficult for the sonographer to measure them properly as they move around and it's crowded in there! The hospital told me they only start worrying if there's 20% weight difference or more.

CB2805 · 18/01/2024 10:09

@Twimum23 wow what an experience and only a minute difference (second baby really didn’t want to be the youngest😅) 🫶🏻 unfortunately consultants are planning for a C-section due to previous surgeries and scar tissue. I hope it will end up to be a smooth experience🤞

@Toucs I have fraternal twins and everyone has mentioned and it was mentioned that they will end up to grow on their own pace at some point so I really hope it’s nothing to worry about🤞

@CB2805 i went down to theater at 11.45pm and babies were born 12.08 &12.09am and was in recovery by 12.30 was a really good experience no problems at all I think if I was the have anymore I would op for a c section again

CB2805 · 18/01/2024 11:41

@Twimum23 that gives me so much hope, thank you❤️
Did your recovery went well? Plus obv taking care of both babies?

Twimum23 · 18/01/2024 11:54

@CB2805 yeah recovery was really good so boys were born the Saturday morning and I stayed in hospital till the Monday afternoon….by the wed/thurs I was almost back yo normal except from heavy lifting…I found the more you walk around the easier it was….also get a big cushion to sit on I found that helpful getting up from the sofa also my partner kept a chair near the door for me to sit on so I didn’t have to bend to put shoes on…but by day 5 bruising was gone anything scar healed really well surprised the nurse who done the checks aswell

CB2805 · 18/01/2024 13:04

@Twimum23 that’s great to hear you did so well! I already had a c section due to an open surgery when I was younger which I recovered quickly, but thought with pregnancy would be different. I’m glad it’s not

@CB2805 I have identical twins and due to complications was scanned every fortnight ramping up to twice a week due to TTTS. They put in an appearance at 31 week via EMCS.

My sister has fraternal twins, she only had a couple more scans than a single pregnancy. Hers were quite different weights at birth but it was never an issue, they are DCDA.

I drove after 3 weeks, just called insurance to clear it with them

CB2805 · 18/01/2024 19:49

@idontlikealdi im having fraternal twins as well. They mentioned everything is in normal range unless they have 2 weeks difference but i cant help it and worry!
also im quite petite so i honestly have a big fear of how they gonna fit in me and end up not being too small😅
when did you start preparing for the twins? Were you ready at 31weeks? Obv i know that they can show up whenever😂 so not sure when to start getting ready
