Fluid leakage

I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant, on and off for the past 4 weeks I've noticed I've lost fluid, sometimes it's after I've been to the toilet for a wee, others it's on movement like walking around, like today I've been walking a lot so had a lot more, it feels like I've wee'd when it happens and it's a small patch on my underwear which is clear but occasionally has a white strip through it. Sometimes it smells sweet others nothing. I rang maternity triage 4 weeks ago when it first started they weren't concerned checked cervix there was lots of discharge so did a swab for thrush, but told me they had no tests for amniotic fluid left. So said to keep an eye and sent me on my way. Baby is moving normally, so no concerns there but just concerned it seems to be happening quite a lot some days. Anyone have any experience here.

Fucking awful….

Personally…
assuming you believe something is wrong…

I’d wait until tomorrow and go in first thing when the day unit is open. Ours opens at 8am - I’d be there before 8am

I’d go in and explain again about the leaking and say you strongly feel something is wrong and would like a scan if they have no amniotic fluid tests. Which in itself is just appalling

ask/insist for a scan to measure amniotic fluid to see if levels are normal.
They did this type of measurement at my 28 and 36 week scans.

I’d be very polite but essentially just keep repeating yourself and say you feel strongly something is wrong you want a scan to measure fluid… if they are refusing ask that what is their plan is.

if they try and send you are with nothing ask to see someone more senior… if they gets no joy request they noted on medical records that you raised raised these concerns twice and twice they were ignored.

(I had to do this once… when I asked they note my concerns and that I’d sue the pants off them they agreed to perform a test that revealed a fairly serious health problem - for me not baby)

Go back and get that test done OP. Why risk it?

Beamur · 16/01/2024 22:05

I would definitely want that checked again. You really need to find out if you are leaking amniotic fluid.

acupofteamakeseverythingbetter · 16/01/2024 22:09

Definitely ask for scans to measure amniotic fluid not just once but multiple times so they can keep an eye and check it over a few weeks

I had similar around the same stage of pregnancy, I was also dismissed as my cervix was closed. I had a private scan at 30wks that showed incredibly low levels of amniotic fluid and was referred back to hospital. According to the NHS I was at the lower end but still within range. I ended up having fortnightly growth scans followed by an induction at 38+2 after DDs growth slowed. I never did get a concrete answer but I’m fairly sure my low levels were down to a leak at 26wks.

It’s probably just discharge which is really common in pregnancy but absolutely should be checked if it’s worrying you which it obviously is. Ring them first thing

My post was way longer but yes, basically this.

Its common and likely nothing OP so don’t be stressed but it should be checked.
the fact they aren’t /haven’t isn’t okay.

Bethpaigeox · 17/01/2024 10:21

I've been in to be checked as baby didn't stop moving all evening and night thus me thinking he was stressed too! Resulting in a sleepless night, the test came back negative which is good but baby still constantly moving which is unusual for him, so I've booked a private scan too for piece of mind to make sure he's okay in there. Heart rate was good however mine was raised at 117bpm, and palpitations but probably due to stress I presume.

@Bethpaigeox I don’t want to further add to your worries, but one thing I found out after the fact is those tests only pick up traces of amniotic fluid within a 48hr window so it’s still possible to have had a leak and test negative. Hopefully the private scan will offer added reassurance x

Babybaby09 · 17/01/2024 12:47

@Bethpaigeox I’m 26 weeks too and my baby has started moving a lot more in the last week, or he’s just got bigger so I can feel him! Might be tmi but I also find I leak a bit after going to the toilet but when I’ve put a pad in it’s usually dry. Good that you’re getting checked out but if all is fine hopefully this reassures you!
