Hello
I'm 13 weeks pregnant tomorrow. When I conceived I weighed 56-57 kg at 170 cm
I've had really bad sickness and exhaustion. Not really being sick but feeling so sick I have to lie down for hours after I eat. That said I am eating just a lot less than normal. It's not my first pregnancy and I had sickness in those but not like this. Today I weigh 52.6 kg and wanted to check if this is normal? It could easily be muscle loss as I normally exercise and haven't been. But i also know that the sickness has left me unable to eat much. I really don't want to lose the baby. I did find smoothies a relief but then worried about bacteria and I was buying them not making because standing in the kitchen makes me gag
Any advice please?

My understanding is that your body will prioritise the baby and make sure they get what they need so I wouldn't worry about that. You do need to look after yourself though. It's hard to eat when you feel sick but it may actually help the nausea if you can manage something little and often. I'm not sure what your concern is in terms of smoothies and bacteria? Shop bought smoothies will be perfectly fine and are a pretty healthy craving!

Do you like nuts? They're great because they're high in calories and nutrients. At this stage I'd just eat whatever you can manage though and do see your GP if you continue to lose weight or need help with the nausea.

I lost around 2.5kg by your stage but then started to slowly gain weight and got back to my pre-pregnancy weight at around 19 weeks.

Get as much rest/sleep as you can too, I found the nausea was a lot worse if I was tired.

You’ll be fine, just stay hydrated and eat what you can. I had HG with DS and lost 13kg. I barely weighed 48kg to start with. It was brutal and I had to have IV nutrition but baby was healthy and chunky.

Ok thank you
Do you think this is HG?
I sleep all the time
I work full time but from home and I lie on the bed all day working from there then go to sleep when I stop work at 9 pm until I wake up at 7 am
On the weekend I spend the entire days in bed. My worry with smoothies is that I heard fresh are more nutritious but... problem is that they may not be wash the vegetables and fruits to get rid of toxic plasmosis or other bacteria that could put baby at risk is this correct ?
Wow I cannot believe
You were 42 kg and lost more. So happy you all had healthy babies

I lost lots of weight in my second pregnancy because of very bad sickness. I didn’t tell anyone I was even pregnant until 24 weeks and no one had suspected a thing because I was smaller not bigger! That dc is a super healthy, intelligent and thriving 10 year old now.

However, I really wish I’d been more insistent with my midwife & doctor that I needed help. I mentioned how bad I was feeling but probably not strongly / clearly enough. There are medications that can really help.

Would you be able to stomach those kid's smoothies and foods in pouches?

AvantGarden · 16/01/2024 07:58

Seconding these if you can manage them. I’m feeling very sick in my first trimester and sipping on Innocent kids smoothies are the only way I can get vitamins in right now! Them being really cold seems to help, too.

Great idea I will look for those. Strangely I get really cold in this pregnancy. So being in bed with a heater lying down helps-I'm sure it makes most people feel the opposite!
