I am around 4-5 weeks pregnant and since I found out 2 weeks ago keep forgetting I need to change what I eat! So far I have eaten sushi, gorgonzola and prawns (though some people say these are OK to eat?). I also drank 5 units of wine last week. I have resolved to do better from now on but am paranoid I have already turned my baby into a four-headed alien. Any thoughts/reassurance out there??

at aitch. not you madamez....that\s horrible

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 22:54

i was forced to read her in a university course.

i then knew the depths of despair.

she is so self-absorbed.

to bad she had to use her mouth to eat that pate and not her hand to stop her turning out more of her damn books.

fishie · 21/03/2008 22:55

oh yes expat. i was starving. it didn't help that i was moved bed every half day and so was always playing catchup on the previous dwellers food whims.

naomi is a nitwit.

Heathcliffscathy · 21/03/2008 22:56

expat. may the goddess forgive you.

go and get misconceptions out of the library.

then come back on here and thank me.

honest to goodness it is a good read.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 22:58

I'll be sure to pick up Misconceptions next time I'm in a car boot sale, soph, and give it a valued place in my car emergency kit to use as kindling in case I need to start a fire. I'll wet it, first, get it nice and smoky so the rescuers can see me better.

That'll be the best service Naomi's ever done anyone.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 22:59

It'd be good, too, for lodging under a wheel stuck in mud or snow, to give your vehicle that extra bit of traction it may need to break free before you have to resort to teh shovel.

Aitch · 21/03/2008 22:59

i must say i remember reading an excerpt from her birth book and it COMPLETELY scared the shit out of me. i don't rate her, i must say, i think she's selling tickets on herself.

fishie · 21/03/2008 23:00

naomi was a big disappointment, not vulnerable but feeble.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 23:00

Seriously, folks, it's well worth the trouble to check out the takeaways in your hospital's vicinity.

Ask if they do deliveries to the hospital.

Put the menus in your bag and don't forget your mobile!

Kick back and enjoy fine dining!

Aitch · 21/03/2008 23:22

ah no, i just dined on expensive M&S salads etc, the thought of hot food in that tropical environment turned my stomach.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 23:25

tropical?! aitch, it's Scotland!

i can't remember the last time i was actually warm, certainly not in ERI in December.

bbrrr.

the midwife found me at 1AM, wrapped in my jacket on hte bed.

i was FREEZING and didn't think to pack an extra duvet as i already had a large wheeled bag secured to my bedside table with a bike lock.

oh no, the PRM in dec was biling...

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 23:38

hmm, maybe i should try ot give birth there.

ERI was BALTIC in winter and so hot in summer they gave out fans.

Aitch · 21/03/2008 23:45

i'll not hear a bad word about that hospital, i LOVE the guy in charge there, big brain, very funny. bfing support isn't too impressive though but am Working On That.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 23:46

i don't usually rely on the hospital for BF support, but it would have really helped with DD1, back when i didn't know about NCT or MN or that.

Aitch · 21/03/2008 23:51

i just think they should be hyper-aware that if it's your first child you may not have been able to look past the labour and even think about how bfing works etc. all the books are very vague about it. i mean, it can't be too hard for them to visit every mum who says she wants to bf and just say 'look, there's a process here, it works Like This'.
let's face it, formula manufacturers take advantage of our vulnerability at that time, by saying 'look, it'll all be over soon, we're here to help you', so i don't really get why the blooming BFCs aren't more on the ball.

expatinscotland · 21/03/2008 23:52

plus, a lot of women think that if they don't bf from the get go, they never can and just to keep ffing.

not true at all.

at NCT, i met a woman who ff'd her baby for the first week.

was devestated.

came to a clinic and then, with support, went on to bf her baby for 3 months.

lissielouwithbunnyears · 22/03/2008 10:50

expat, thats axctly what i was told. as i recovered from a traumatic caesarean and subsequent uterine infection i struggled to bf, when i finally caved and gave him fm the mw's told me that i would haveto ff from then on shame really, 5d later i still had loads of lovely milk....

VictorianPASqualor · 22/03/2008 10:55

I just remembered the food DP's nan was eating when we went to visit her last week

Aitch · 22/03/2008 11:43

you know... if someone had been eating a stinky curry in the bed next to My Precious Baby i think i would have been horrified. i presume that you went to some other place to eat them, expat. they SMELL. i was sitting on the underground the other day with a guy eating a maccy d's and nearly hurled all over him.

lissielouwithbunnyears · 22/03/2008 13:08

aitch

expatinscotland · 22/03/2008 14:31

i had my own room both times, aitch!

i know i got it first time round because after the forceps delivery i spiked a fever in the delivery suite.

second time round, i just got lucky.

expatinscotland · 22/03/2008 14:32

i was told the same thing, lissie, with dd1.

had NO idea it was entirely possible to still bf even after you've ff'd a few days.

lissielouwithbunnyears · 22/03/2008 14:35

wow expat, youd almost think it was the same hospital! when i was transferred from RSH to PRH i was still unable to walk 5d after the cs, the infection hadnt been diagnosed and oddly they gave me a nice private room. it was all arranged en-route. thought it was strange at the time.
