Hi

Expecting Baby no2, first was born be emcs so opting for elective cs this time.
Had appt with consultant this am and have been given a date for the op of 31/1 which will be 39+5
What I was wondering is if anyone else has had an elcs (particularly if it’s a second baby plus) and have gone into spontaneous labour prior to 39+5?
Im just curious as it’s quite close to my actual due date.
Thanks
xxx

Sounds like you need the labour probability calculator. There are generally very low odds of going into labour before your due date (or on it), the whole dating thing needs a major overhaul as it's very misleading. https://datayze.com/labor-probability-calculator

Having said that, you should discuss with MW or consultant whether you want a trial of labour (TOL) before the CS or whether, if you present to hospital in labour, you want to go straight to a CS. And if you have a TOL, whether you want minimal intervention or a very low threshold for them to go to a CS if things don't progress in a perfect manner.

Labor Probability Calculator

Estimates the odds of spontaneous labor on a given day based on where you are relative to your due date.

I should add, when I went into hospital in labour the day before my CS (booked for 40+6 due to theatre booking issues at small hospital), I had a VBAC with a low threshold for going to a CS if any issues presented themselves. Their requirement was that I went straight in as soon as my waters broke due to the reason they wanted to do a CS.

Ultimately what happens if you go into labour early should be your choice (barring emergencies/complications) and it could be helpful to make a plan in advance. I found the probability calculator very helpful for advocating for my birth choices though.

My friend had an elective section at bang on 39 weeks and her waters broke while she was with the anesthetist. She went over 41 weeks on her first so didn't expect that.

All electives here are 7-10 days before due date.

Yep. Had my section booked for 40 weeks (my choice) and went into labour at 38+3!

My elective is booked the day before my due date which is making me anxious too!

Have to keep each other posted! Is it your first child? X @dancingdaisies92

Hi @Emsxox,

I am due my c section tomorrow which will put me at 39+4 and as of yet no signs of Labour, obviously everyone is different but I did question it when I was given the date at I felt it was cutting it fine (baby is breech so I didn’t want to risk natural labour and having to have a breech vaginal delivery) and was told there was only a 10% chance of going into spontaneous labour, keeping my fingers crossed for you x

@Fizzle1987 good luck today! Xxx
