12 week scan??

So this is my 4th pregnancy and according to the midwives I could be 10 weeks pregnant but based on the conception date I think I could be closer to 11 and a half weeks. It's been 2 weeks since my booking in appointment and I still haven't received a letter, so I called the hospital to check if they could give me a date, to which I was told that they do the scan at 14 weeks and to wait for a letter to arrive as it's "too early", is this right? I remember with my previous pregnancies I had the scans at around 12 weeks (same hospital). I'm worried that if they book me for 14 weeks and turns out I'm more pregnant than previously thought they might not be able to do the down syndrome test. Is this right? Thanks for your replies, I'm just very anxious to see if baby's okay

At this stage isn't your gestation based on your LMP? I'm confused as to how there's a discrepancy between what you think and the midwives think if you've not had your dating scan yet.

In my trust they scheduled it between 11 and 13 weeks I believe. 14 does sound late for both dating and NT screening.

I'm surprised they do all of them at 14 weeks.

I suspect they mean the do the up until 14 weeks rather than at 14 weeks. There is an alternative test you can have if you are too late for the 1st trimester screening but it is not quite as good and obviously you are later in the pregnancy if there are difficult decisions to make.

Why do you think your dates are different to what the midwife has calculated?

Could you afford a private scan to put your mind at ease?

If they can’t do the NT test at the 12 week scan you can get a quad blood test in your second trimester. I had to get this as baby wasn’t in the right position at 12 week scan and everything was fine, if there’s an issue they can still give you the additional tests from the quad results.

My friend didn’t get her first scan until 13.5 weeks this week and found out she’s a little further on that expected so has been sent for the quad test rather than NT.

The reason why I think the dates could be different is because I got pregnant less than 2 months after having DC3 (not planned) and I had a bleeding which I was pretty sure it was a period and that it would be safe, and that's the only time it could have happened. My midwife is counting that bleeding as a period to estimate a date

Thanks for your replies, the woman on the phone told me they do the scans at 14 weeks not "up to 14 weeks", idk why they've changed the policy as it sounds so late... I'm thinking about going private but idk if they can do NT

If you go privately they can do a blood test (NIPT) to screen for Downs, Edwards, Palau and sometimes others. I did this.

My trust offers the scan between 11 and 14 weeks.
I had my first scan yesterday at 13 weeks.
My next midwife appointment is not until 16 weeks and I haven't been offered the nipt testing either

Sorry I could have been clearer. I went for a private NIPT test + scan. Otherwise all my care was NHS.

I'm sorry, I don't know what's going on, it didn't use to be like this

Aren't you also counting that as a period? So the first full day of that bleeding is your LMP, and your gestation is calculated from that?

Nevermind, I texted my midwife this morning and she just replied with the date of the appointment and the activation code for the badger notes app. Midwives generally are very nice and helpful, but hospital staff tend to lack manners and don't inform you properly
