Hey, I was just wondering when pregnant are you aloud to take iron tablets? I'm struggling and feel that they will help. I habe some from Holland and Barret that I've used before. But didn't know if I could now?

my only symptom throughout this pregnancy is tiredness. I was also worried about iron levels.
did you had your first midwife appointment? On the bloods collected they’re checking iron levels. Mine came back normal so I just stick with pregnancy vitamins x

I haven't yet, I did refer myself but I guess it's waiting game. It said someone will be in touch in a few weeks I think that was like a week or two maybe more? It said could be up to 10 weeks till being contact but I have a bicornuate uterus so thought be earlier than that. I did put that on there.

@Jeyla1230 i just received a letter home tbh no one got in touch with me and it was around the 9week mark. Just give them a call for an update.
im not sure if it’s general or it was my occasion, but I have a complicated pregnancy(IVF, twins, lots of bleeding etc) and honestly my midwife did not put anything in notes or acknowledge what I wrote down when self referred.
I think only when you first meet consultant things are getting acknowledged.

Hi. I'm currently 33 weeks and have been tired (exhausted) from the day and hour I found out. Iron has always been perfect.

Tiredness don't always mean low iron.

Olika · 09/01/2024 20:31

I think it might be the overall impact being pregnant has. I was absolutely shattered after work every day. Make sure you are taking pregnancy supplements. I just checked about iron in pregnancy and on Vitabiotics (Pregnacare) website it says
High levels of iron are not recommended unless there is a particular requirement as identified by your healthcare professional.

Whataretheodds · 09/01/2024 20:35

Feeling shattered during the 1st trimester is not at all uncommon, it's not necessarily iron.

Are you taking a prenatal supplement?

mrsed1987 · 09/01/2024 20:43

I'd agree with others and say it's unfortunately a common symptom. I was so tired in the 1st trimester, in 2nd now and much better but know it will his again in the 3rd 😂

Ah ok I'm only on week 6 so I'll give it couple more weeks then see if I hear anything.

Thank you everyone for your comments I appreciate them. I'm taking folic acid but do I need to take other stuff too? Sorry for delay just got in from work. The morning is just ridiculously hard 😫😫😫. I knew you could get tired during pregnancy but this is something else 😂😂😂😂

Try pregnancy supplement as it has all other vitamins too so might make a difference.

Unabletomitigate · 10/01/2024 07:57

Hey there! Keep up with the folic acid, and try and find a prenatal vitamin too. It is a good idea, especially if you are struggling to eat, or having morning sickness.
As for feeling tired, if you can- just accept it and rest as much as possible. Your body is telling you it wants to rest.
