My period is five days late, however I've done a pregnancy test and it's showing negative. Despite this, I've started to feel nauseous and tired. Does anyone have any idea when pregnancy tests show up as positive and whether it's likely that I could be pregnant?

It can depend on when you ovulate so you might have ovulated slightly later this month. Are your periods regular or irregular?
I would wait a couple more days and try another test first thing in the morning. The gp would usually say to try test again a week after a missed period just to double check.

I ovulated one week before intercourse and this was during my most fertile period. I read somewhere that you can usually test 21 days after intercourse. It's been 24 days.
I'll take your advice and test one week after my period was due to start (Thursday)
