Nausea and work - help?!

Hi all,

i’m currently 8 weeks pregnant and for the past 10 days or so, the all day nausea has hit hard! For the past week I’ve only been managing 1 small meal a day, occasionally a few bits here and there but my intake is not even half what it should be.
I’ve seen the gp who has prescribed Xonvea which has not helped yet, so have another apt tomorrow about upping dose.
I’ve spoken to work about the situation and they’ve been understanding… but am I being stupid for potentially phoning in tomorrow or asking to halve my work load?! I work in healthcare so very much feel the ‘healthcare guilt’. I know it sounds pathetic but really don’t know what to do here.

TIA x

Morning sickness is horrendous. Do whatever you can to look after yourself in these early days. Good luck :)

They’d probably rather have you in with a half load than signed off sick so it’s worth talking to them to see what they can do.

Fully agree. I am sure they will understand.

I work as a nurse and my honest advice is take time off. I was signed off for two weeks when I was 9 weeks and honestly it was the best decision. I really needed the time to rest and was barely managing to look after myself, never mind be responsible for vulnerable people. I went back to work feeling so much more physically and mentally able despite still having strong symptoms.

I’m 17 weeks now and finally starting to feel like myself again but if you are in a position where you can take time off please do. I know it’s hard but you and baby need to be priority so no work guilt! Take care and hope you feel better soon!
