Ongoing bleeding 11 weeks

Just looking for some advice. I am 11 +3 weeks, (2 previous mmc, so very nervous). Around 7 weeks i had some spotting, dark brown. Scan showed all was fine. Since then, I've pretty much had ongoing bleeding some of it red with clots. I have brown spotting almost daily, with occasional red blood, not heavy but not light either. I had scans on 17/12 and 26/12, all was fine. They cannot see any cause for bleeding, and I've only had brown spotting since then. I thinking about booking another scan, but will it help? I'm just panicking all the time but a scan only reassures me for a day or so! I know some people just bleed in pregnancy but its so bloody stressful and scary and I just don't know what to do. My NHS dating scan is 15th Jan. Would you wait for that, or get a private scan for reassurance!? X

@Milamight Hey! I didnt want to read and run - could you ask to be referred for a scan which specifically monitors the blood flow from placenta to baby. The team is called Fetal Maternal Assessment Unit (FMAU) - or it is where I am from.

I had multiple “normal” scans and they all were fine but the reality was, I needed that scan.

Hope everything goes well! Push for more checks/answers. Xx

Have they given you anything? I had quite a heavy bleed at 6 weeks and then ongoing spotting for about a week. They couldn't identify the source, either. (It's really stressful, I know. I'm still worried I'll see blood every time I go to the toilet.) However, we've really ramped up my progesterone. My levels were quite low at the beginning of the pregnancy anyway, so I had already asked for it to be increased. (I'm on 800mg Cyclogest and 25mg Prolutex.) This seems to have sorted it out for now. I'm currently also 11+2 and baby seems to be fine.

Mine is an ivf pregnancy and a kryo transfer, so it's a little different but might be something to check. If you are that far along by now, your placenta should have taken over, though.

@Milamight also, as the other poster mentioned - ask for cyclogest pessaries if they have not already been prescribed. Xx

Thank you for your response! Should have mentioned, I've been on 800mg progesterone and high dose folic acid since 5weeks and asprin since 10w (2 mmc and 2 preterm births). I phoned epu today and they said if it gets heavy again to phone. I just feel like i have a couple of days with nothing then it starts again.😬

@Milamight hi, I had a similar experience but with IVF pregnancy abroad. Long story short I started bleeding at 6weeks on and off then brown spotting till around 9weeks and now lots of yellow discharge. My doctor abroad found a hematoma on the scans that caused the bleeding and I’ve been on progesterone tablets and injections at first which was reduced by the time.
My worry in your case is the aspirin - as I’m a twin pregnancy my midwife on first appointment in UK wanted to prescribe some. I called my doctor first and he said to not take any for no reason as it’s a blood thinner and increases bleeding? When I mentioned that to them the answer was oh yeah you’re right!!! Mad!
please please give a call to your doctor/ midwife or who ever to ask for advice! Aspirin could cause your extra bleeding!
the thing with the bleeding is that is nothing to worry about but if it’s constant can cause issues .
please don’t take my words as granted I’m not an expert but I’ve done lots of research as I was freaking out with the bleeds and everywhere was saying that aspirin is not advised on active bleeding.
I hope everything turns out well and you have a healthy and happy pregnancy🫶🏻

Thank you so much. I have phoned twice since last week and mentioned the aspirin and the bleeding but they arent listening to me! I just feel like I dont knowbwhat to do and have to wait till my scan on 15th. This baby is do wanted and I'm scared I'm doing the wrong thing with the aspirin! So frustrating!

May I ask what was the reason of prescribing aspirin?

Milamight · 02/01/2024 14:13

It was a consultant who prescribed it because its high risk for preterm birth. I was confused as I didnt feel I met the criteria for it but it apparently can help to reduce the risk of mc...

I had spotting throughout first trimester, it was so scary I really thought I was losing the baby but now 24 weeks and all fine. Mine was a subchorionic haematoma which healed by itself by my dating scan

Faceache45 · 03/01/2024 19:16

I bled for the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. I had progesterone injections and asprin. I was actually put on bed rest. I wouldn't bother with the extra scans. I had SO many scans. As soon as I left I was anxious again.
