Lateral placenta

Hi, I’m just looking for anyone else who has experienced having a lateral placenta before? I was told at my 20wk scan I have a left lateral palcenta and that this isn’t too common.

I’ve heard this can sometimes increase the likelihood of pre-eclampsia and breech positioning down the line as the blood supply is only coming from one side of the uterus as opposed to both.

I wouldn’t say I’m worried but more just looking for others pregnancy/birth experiences in the same situation? I’m sure plenty of people have gone on to have normal pregnancies and births but I’m curious.

thank you!

I had a very low placenta when pregnant and I gave birth naturally. I had no problems during the pregnancy

I know this is an old thread but would you mind sharing if it had any impact on the rest of your pregnancy? I've just been told I have a low lying right lateral placenta at 20 week scan and they didn't say anything else other than 32 week follow up but Google has scared me as apparently more risks?!

@HettieMama I got the impression from every doctor/sonographer/medical person that it was a total non issue. So I would try not to worry and enjoy your pregnancy:)

I didn’t end up having the most straightforward pregnancy towards the end but when I asked whether a lateral placenta could have affected things i was told no, my baby was IUGR due to cord flow issues/placental insufficiency and was born 35+6. We brought her home from NICU yesterday actually. :)
