Low pappa :(

Hey all I got a phone call this morning to say my screening results from 12 week scan came back with low pappa, increasing the risk of down syndrome.
I ended up going for a NIPT test this evening and the results should take upto 2 weeks. I've looked at my notes and it says I'm 0.18mom for low pappa, the chance is 1/104 for down syndrome and 1/538 for Edwards and Patau.

Is anyone else going through this right now? I did feel a little bit better after the appointment today they said even if it was 1 in 50,000 they still have to inform you of the risk. Its just what if 😭 x

This happened to me with my first.

I had Low Papp A was told to take aspirin and was under consultancy care. My son is now two.

I'm happy to answer questions about my experience if this will help you.

I had this, 1 in 24 for DS

Nipt low risk and my baby does not have DS

My Papp a was 0.32

Fawklight · 28/12/2023 18:27

Yeah, he was very well when born. Heavier than expected as well.

He's currently running away from his daddy laughing his head off. No complications

Moancup · 28/12/2023 18:32

I had this. It was low PAPP-A in isolation, so everyone was comfortable with the other risks being low. I had to take aspirin and had extra growth scans, which is the standard response. DS did indeed stop growing properly sometime around 30 weeks and had to be born early by c section at 36. No long term health implications but he’s now 17 months and it’s still taking him a while to catch up with his peers size wise. Lots of women seem to have low PAPP-A without it leading to size problems though.

@PollyRosex no problem. Like @Moancup mentioned, it's the growth they focus on. I got a scan like every other week. I found that quite comforting because I could see him grow.

I had low papp-a had to take aspirin and extra scans. My little girl was born in September with a nice healthy weight of 7.13lbs. Try not to worry too much. They have picked it up early and will do everything they need to monitor babies growth.

Low papp-A is not the worst thing in the world - it gives a slightly increased chance of stillbirth if no extra care is given, but you'll get extra scans etc and they'll be on top of any issues. As one PP said, you get to see the baby loads!

DS2 had a low papp-A score which often means lower birth weight, but came out entirely average. He's 3 now, and loopy, dramatic and lots of fun. Totally standard three year old.
