I've been shopping around the town centre this afternoon and all the shops where I thought I'd find maternity clothes, there weren't any.

Last time I was pregnant Marks & Spencers had a maternity section for basics, Dorothy Perkins and Top Shop had nothing, neither did H & M. So where do you all buy your maternity clothes from? I can't buy the next size up because the tops fall off my shoulders and make me look like I'm bigger than I am and buying larger trousers/jeans won't work because there is far too much material in the 'bum' . Thanks for the help! .

Vertbaudet has a fab online store www.vertbaudet.co.uk

You can also go to Mothercare.

I mostly got mine in H&M, so surprised you didnt find any.

DonDons · 16/03/2008 18:46

another vote for H&M - think I have most of their range as not much to go at though. Isabella Oliver (on line only) is brilliant but relatively expensive (also lots of bargains on e-bay). Red Herring in Debenhams good for trousers IMO. Otherwise, MIL put elastic in my non mat trousers/jeans as I had real trouble finding stuff that fits/smart suits for work (still wearing these now at 36 weeks)

Next
Dorothy Perkins
Mamas & Papas
M&S

The online shops have more than the high street.

Louandben · 16/03/2008 18:53

It seems expensive but I promise you will wear it to death and it washes/wears superbly well - get a few basic pieces from Isabella Oliver and Formes Formes(the latters double layer tops are just so comfy and flattering). Im sure you can get Top Shop maternity online and you may also like Blooming Marvellous. Good luck!

Buddhababe · 16/03/2008 19:08

Hi

Have you tried Gap and Zara aswell?

I posted about other Maternity shops earlier too which may be of help. See this link:

Topshop. Loved their brightly patterned soft flowy dresses. I got lots of compliments, even from women who did not even twig I was pregnant! Then sold them on eBay really easily.

Get a good pair of comfortable flattering dark maternity trousers. For the tops, you don't even have to buy maternity. Just loose v-necked empire line tops (not sure if they are still in fashion) that flatter the bosom. Got them for next to nothing from H&M, RiverIsland, New Look.

A few good pieces from Formes.

tassisssss · 16/03/2008 19:54

my stuff's mostly from next and H&M with the odd bit from Red herring, mothercare, jojo maman bebe and blooming marvelous

nancy75 · 16/03/2008 19:55

dont know where you live browny but in bromley formes has an outlet store. i loved thier stuff when i was pregnant, would have loved it more if id bought it in the sale!

bobsmum · 16/03/2008 19:58

This time round I've been living in New Look maternity stuff - really really nice and great selection. May only be at the larger stores though?

moocowme · 16/03/2008 20:09

ebay for some but then just made most of what I needed. gave birth in September so it was easy to whip up some floaty tops a tent dress and a couple of pairs of linen trousers. making my own ensured that they were cotton or linen and not some hiddeous polyester.

oh and they actually fit!

browny · 16/03/2008 22:12

Hi, thank you everyone for all your suggestions and help, I'm in Merseyside so I thought that Liverpool's town centre shops would have maternity wear. I'll take a look on e-bay too, maybe the likes of Top Shop and Dorothy Perkins etc, rely more on their internet sites than their actual shops, it's disappointing though when you would actually like to try on something. Thanks again everyone for all your help, it's much appreciated!.

Hi, not sure how many weeks you are, but both Matalan and Sainsburys have told me they are going to do a maternity range this year but dont have specific dates. Like you, I think it's important to try things on the last thing you want is another trip to the Post Office for returns! Happy Shopping x

What size are you and how tall? I'm going to put some onto e bay when I can find my camera lead...Size 14, mainly Next, some Cocoon(La Redoute), Red Herring. I don't have CAT, if you do, you can e mail me if you like. Hope that is allowed.

BearMama · 17/03/2008 17:57

Hi, I got mine from charity shops and eBay. Best buys were Formes (the double layer tops are BRILLIANT - I bought four and wear them in rotation) but couldnt have afforded them new-they are £56 each. They wash brilliantly, flatter the figure and are so comfortable.
Maternity trousers are a bit hit and miss I'm afraid - currently my favourite pair are Formes (again) and stretchy jersey Mothercare ones.

vicsta · 17/03/2008 19:39

New Look my favourite for work clothes (trousers, smart tops etc. Cheap vests, Tshirts etc from Peacocks Maternity range Bought nice fitting denim skirt & 3/4 length denim jeans from there also, £12 each. Keep a look out for sale items and nick whatever you can from boyf/husband.

vicky11 · 17/03/2008 19:46

New look great and cheap!
M and s have some great comfy pants for when you are BIG!
I have only found expensive jeans to fit well. Seven for all mankind. bought mine in America cheap but they now sell them in Selfridges! expensive but worth it!!!

browny · 22/03/2008 21:42

I discovered Seraphin2 (2 shops in london but can order online) - their clothes fit really well and i bought a lovely dress and a couple of tops from there which i wore all the time.. www.seraphine.com

ScarletPimpernel1976 · 23/03/2008 18:04

sorry, that was meant to read Seraphine!

ktpie · 23/03/2008 19:03

Since I've been pregnant I have noticed that a few of the high street shops have stopped stocking their maternity ranges in the same shops that had them at the beginning of the year, Dorothy Perkins was one. Is it the wrong season to be pregnant!

Clairedaz · 24/03/2008 17:15

I have brought quite a few bits of ebay - have not had any regrets. Simply B, New Look, Next.

I also have brought some loveley elasticated non mat clothes from shops like Evans - I found quite a few stores are quite expensive.
