Induction - No cots

Hii,

I was due to be induced on the 24-12-23 however was sent home as there were no cots available in the neonatal unit.

I have gestation diabetes managed with insulin and baby has been diagnosed with congenital heart disease hence why I was to be induced at 38 weeks.

I feel really anxious now as the hospital haven’t called us back in and when I called this morning they said there were still no cots. What would happen if I was to go into labour naturally and there were no cots….

The hospital haven’t said when and if they would call back or what the plan is if any at all.

Does anyone have any experience/ been through something similar or have any advice on what I should be doing.

It’s just a waiting game unfortunately. It’s slightly different to if you went into labour naturally as they have to ensure they have the appropriate amount of staffing and resources for induction, especially if you’re high risk. It’s really hard, I was waiting for three days to be induced and it drove me slightly batty.

You could call to ask a plan but chances are they won’t be able to give you a solid answer.

Hey lovely, sorry you have this to worry about on top of your baby.

If you go into labour and there's no bed, baby will be moved to the nearest appropriate hospital by ambulance. The hospital may also take you or you may just be discharged or you may be kept at your delivery hospital. daddy would be able to go with the baby.

If they were really at capacity you might be transferred pre delivery depending on the circs.

As it's a normal work day, I'd call back up today and ask if you can talk to someone about the plan / call your midwife. Can you get a reassurance scan ?

Are there no other hospitals you can go to? I’m pretty lucky in that I’m very close to 3 and we get a choice of which one we want to go to
