4d scan - twins?

jadeyjade8 · 23/12/2023 18:54

I had a 4d scan at 24 weeks and this photo looks like I have a hidden twin! I can see the arm on the right coming off the baby, but where is that arm on the left coming from? 😂. I am half joking with the hidden twins scenario but could it be possible? I felt like it might be twins right from finding out I was pregnant. I tested positive at 7dpo and I feel huge already! 😂

Isn't that a foot?

Marylou62 · 23/12/2023 19:46

At 24 weeks I'm certain that you would have been diagnosed by now...

Olika · 23/12/2023 20:14

I would be very worried if nobody had picked it up by 24 weeks.

I thought that too haha but you do hear about people who get all the way to birth until it gets picked up hahah😂 imagine x

Surely that's babies two feet together, they're bent almost in half if you see what I mean

Me too! But it happens doesn't it, especially with them not listening to the heartbeat anymore x

I'm not sure, this was the photo she got just before with the 2 hands held together. But then as it moved it looks like the hand comes from the other direction lol x

They haven't listened to the heartbeat at any appointments? That's weird as I was pregnant last year and I had heartbeat checked several occasions.

I heard it at an early price scan at 7 weeks but both nhs ones I've had they haven't listened they just look at it on the screen

Hear only to comment on the heartbeat thing, that's very weird. I'm 24+5 and they've listened to the heartbeat at all nhs, private scans and used a doppler at midwife appointment

sickbucket67 · 23/12/2023 21:06

They can SEE the cardiac activity

they are qualified sonographers

that is a foot

you are not having twins

it’s quite concerning that you think it’s a possibility. ‘You hear it happen’ - no you don’t. What’s your basis? Erica in Friends?

Oh really? I have my next midwife appointment on 3rd Jan so I will ask about it then x

It happened to a woman in my town, she was told it was a singleton pregnancy all the way through and it wasn't until the babies were born that she knew she was having twins. What's Erica in friends?

@jadeyjade8 where are you based? I guess each area is different and atleast they look at the heartbeat but seems abit weird to never listen to it! Yeah won't hurt to ask. I'm guessing the arm thing is just a weird picture from baby moving as it's unlikely they wouldn't have picked up on a second baby yet but I guess none of us know really!! X

I'm East Yorkshire. I heard it at an early scan at 7 weeks but not at either my 12 week or 20 week nhs scan. They just showed me it on the screen x

Definitely ask as every time I met with the midwife she listened to the heartbeat. And I can see from PPs they had same experience.

oop · 23/12/2023 21:17

I've never listened to the heartbeat at NHS scans and the first time a midwife has used a Doppler to listen to the heartbeat has been the 25 week scan..and that was two different trusts. So pretty normal.

I'm glad it's not just me then haha! X

I think they listen to the heartbeat using doppler at all the midwives appointments from now on. They don't at the 16 week one as it can be tricky to get and they don't want people to worry. Obviously they can see the heartbeat at 20 week scan. When I had twins I was told not to let the midwife listen with doppler as unless you have two midwifes with two dopplers it can be very difficult to be sure you are listening to two different heartbeats and you are sent for, possibly unnecessary, monitoring. I was scanned fortnightly at the hospital, I saw the midwife in between but just for urine/ blood pressure, after the first couple of times.

Pretty sure it would of been picked up at your scans tbh.

Ah maybe that's why they haven't done it at mine yet. My next appointment is early Jan so maybe they will do it then. Yeah I'm sure it would have been picked up too. I was kind of joking about the twin thing I just thought the picture looked funny x

our scan machine at work has a setting where it sort of makes a mirror image almost. we rarely use it because people always jump to the twins thing but it’ll just be that

also i’m 20 weeks and midwife doesn’t listen to heartbeat here until my next (24 or 26 week? not sure) appointment. my last pregnancy was only a year ago and it was 16 weeks then in the same trust so think it’s a recent change
