I'm worried about my 10 week scan - does baby look normal?

Hi there,

I had a private 10 week scan last Saturday and I'm worried my scan doesn't look normal (baby doesn't appear to have a nose 😖)... when looking at other 10 week scan you can clearly see a nose at 10 weeks so now I am really worrying something is wrong with my little Bambie... please can you let me know if my scan looks abnormal? I know it's early but my anxiety is literally through the roof right now!

A scan is sound waves moving through skin, muscle and liquid, which bounce off baby then read by the machine. It's not like a photograph. They are always going to look weird.

Looks totally normal to me! They're teeny at that age so very slight changes in angle when the pic was taken will change what you can see.

You'll be amazed at the change when you get your 12kw scan.

Don’t you think someone would have said something to you at the time ?

My 10+2 day scan didn’t show clear facial features either. They are so small at that stage your probably lucky to see the clear outline of the baby.
Im now 26 weeks pregnant and all scans have shown a perfect little button nose on my miracle baby :)
Good luck with your pregnancy x

This. But I have a very low opinion of private clinics. Just wait for your NHS scan. You can’t do anything about what happens

I had an NHS scan at 10 weeks due to the dates being wrong and it looked like 2 blobs stuck together. Midwife said everything looked healthy so far but the photo had lots of weird misshapen bits! Fast forward 2 weeks and my baby actually resembles a baby now.

it’s totally normal, don’t worry. It’s amazing how much they change in 2 weeks!

Is the baby not facing slightly away from the camera?

Ttcmumma · 22/12/2023 10:29

My sister's baby looked like he had no face at the 12 week scan! It's just a bad picture that's all. I find certain private clinics give you far better imaging of baby. My ultrasound direct private scans look 10x clearer than my NHS scans.

They would have said if they were worried surely? Also sometimes the baby is in a weird position and they try very hard to get the best image possible. 10 weeks is still early.
