Negative test

My husband and I are trying for a baby. My last period was on the 28th November, and we only had intercourse once this month, which was on the 11th November. I tested this morning and I have got a negative. Could this be a false negative as this was only 8 nights ago?

I assume you mean 11th Dec. It's very unlikely you'd get a positive that soon, if you have conceived. Wait until your period is due. And kindly, once a month is not really enough...

Im currently 17DPO and only now getting a strong line on the cheapie/less sensitive tests. I wish I hadn't stressed myself out early doors checking all the time. I'd wait until you're at least 14DPO to test. Good luck ❤️

Also, I conceived DC2 by having sex just once that month. If it's in your fertile window it can happen!

We only did it once as he was away on work trips!!

It’s most likely too early to test. From experience, testing early is addictive and expensive. I’d try hold off until your period due date and take another test.

Happinessischocolate123 · 19/12/2023 14:01

I really hope so, I have read a lot of posts saying people could see a faint line at my point so thought I might be the same :(

You had sex 8 days ago but that doesn’t mean that’s when you ovulated. Sperm can stay alive for around for around 5 days to fertilise an egg, then it takes between 6-12 days for the egg to implant, then another few days for hcg to rise enough to be picked up on a test.

8 days is the very earliest you could see a positive but that would be you ovulated at the time you had sex and implanted quickly.

When is your period due?

Happinessischocolate123 · 24/12/2023 14:02

I did another test this morning... so 13 days after we has sex.
It was negative. My period is due on the 28th December but there was no sign at all of a line... so looks like it is most likely not going to happen this month 😌

Do you know when you ovulated?

Whataretheodds · 24/12/2023 14:33

Do yourself and your mental health a favour: unless you've got a specific reason to test early (rg specific medication you need to start) then wait until you miss a period until you test.

In the meantime take your mind off it doing other stuff.

Hiddenvoice · 24/12/2023 15:45

Sorry it’s negative @Happinessischocolate123 but I agree with @Whataretheodds. if you need to find out early to change medications (I’ve had to do this) then test early but if not then I’d try hold off until your period due date. That way you’re not giving yourself a tough month of testing.

PickledScrump · 24/12/2023 17:27

If you’re due your period on 28th you’re likely only around 10 days past ovulation, which would still be pretty early for a test to pick up. You ovulate around 14 days before your period is due, give or take a few days, even early detection tests only pick up from a few days before your period is due for most people so the first test you did was way too early. I agree with pp, wait to see if your period comes or you’ll drive yourself crazy
