Third trimester indignities

The third trimester: it's such a wonderful time, no? I got to thinking about all the joyful things currently going on and just thought I'd share. Is it just me?

  • I'm so fat/sore I can no longer get off the sofa or tie my shoelaces without OH's assistance.
  • Wind. Dear God, the wind. From both ends, at all times. Last night I woke myself up by burping.
  • I'm almost sure I have piles but am too squeamish to have a look/feel. I refuse to buy some ridiculously-named arse cream, so my current strategy is just hoping they'll go away on their own. I'm deep in piles denial.
  • Every time I have a poo I block the toilet. I'm not exaggerating. Every. Time. At this point I swear I'm pooing out more than I'm eating. HOW?
  • Weeing while sneezing/coughing/moving - this is entirely all my own doing as I haven't done pelvic floor exercises in yonks. Ship's probably sailed on that one.
  • I am 100 years old (or 39) and have been pregnant for approx. 7 years (or 34 weeks; time has lost all meaning).

I should say that I am genuinely delighted to be having a baby, particularly after a previous loss, and that I'm sure my lovely DS will be worth all this. BUT STILL.

Anyone else suffering?!

It really is the worst. I’m 34 weeks too. My additions to the list:

Acid reflux - as soon as I lie down at night I can feel the acid rising into my throat

Impossible to find a comfortable sleeping position. Plus the baby kicks my ribs all night.

I also have a large toddler who doesn’t appreciate that it’s not very convenient for me and my pelvic floor to pick him up and carry him around.

Delights that I had last time and am sure will be happening soon:

Leg cramps - so painful.
Lightening crotch.
Trapped wind - agony.

DustyLee123 · 16/12/2023 15:35

I remember feeling like a tank. I got down on the floor once, to try and soothe my aching back, but I couldn’t get back up. Very nearly had to call an ambulance!

Wintermum01 · 16/12/2023 15:35

Ah yes, all recognisable additions @DuploTrain! I absolutely cannot get comfy either and end up turning over constantly in bed - we have a very creaky bed too (not helped by my girth), so it feels like I’m on a ship or something.

Ugh it’s the worst. Everything gets so sore and non functional. I remember getting a leg cramp so bad it was visible in my leg from across the room. Hurt afterward for months!

Wintermum01 · 16/12/2023 15:39

Oh @DustyLee123, I hear you!! I do wonder if ambulances have literally been called out for things like that!

OP posts:
Wintermum01 · 16/12/2023 15:47

@jusdepamplemousse God it’s so painful isn’t it? I find if I stretch my legs with my toes pointed it sets it off particularly badly.

Omg this made me laugh! Especially the poo thing! I actually blocked the toilet the other day! It’s crazy!!! I’ve never had a poo so big in my life 🤣 was thinking if that can come out of there then surely a baby can come out of the other one 🤣🤣🤣

not long left keep plodding on! X

Wintermum01 · 16/12/2023 17:30

@BEO The poos are insane, right?! Glad it’s not just me 😂

scarceiron · 16/12/2023 19:35

Oh OP this made me laugh - solidarity from a fellow 34-weeker! Had a particularly special day this week with a combination of backache, heartburn, a cough/cold…and our good friend piles. Hang on in there!!

Wintermum01 · 16/12/2023 19:55

@scarceiron The 34 week survivors’ club!! Sorry you’re having a mare too! You’ve got to laugh though haven’t you, in between all the weeing, etc. Not too long now!

I can relate. Acid reflux, not being comfortable and rib pain are probably my main issues. I’ve just got 11 days until c-section. I should enjoy some relaxing time (or as much as I can get with toddler) but I am looking forward to not being pregnant anymore and getting my body back. Oh and also meeting new baby of course 😅

Wintermum01 · 16/12/2023 20:12

That’s so exciting ! Not the reflux and pain obviously, but so exciting that you’ll be meeting baby soon. I’m having a c section in Jan. Good luck! ☺️

It was the snoring for me when I was pregnant with my twins - and a dick of a now ex husband who'd get stroppy because he couldn't sleep because of it 😂

Wintermum01 · 16/12/2023 21:20

@thelonemommabear Ugh, definite dick!

OnAir · 16/12/2023 21:41

It gets better... not. I ended up with an emergency c section. I couldn't put my knickers on my partner had to shower me at the hospital. I almost thought he was going to have to wipe my arse at one point. Breastfeeding boobs like sand bags super sore massive nipples. Honestly pregnancy and childbirth is ugly. Just embrace it. My dignity left last week.

Anxiousmammyagain · 16/12/2023 22:19

Another 34 weeker here. Big tick to all the things previously mentioned but my own addition…restless leg! Bedtime is no longer my favourite part of the day 😭

sarahc336 · 16/12/2023 23:57

With my second I was in labour ward being examined to see if I was in established labour, I stood up and loads of water came out all over my partners shoe. I said oh is that my waters, the midwife said I'll just check, she checked and said nope they're still all there, i think it was just wee. I'd literally done a piss all over dp and the floor 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 pregnancy is bloody tough 🤣

Wintermum01 · 17/12/2023 07:29

@sarahc336 Oh no! 😂 Oh that made me laugh (sorry)!

OP posts:
Wintermum01 · 17/12/2023 07:30

@Anxiousmammyagain Oh poor you, that sucks. I’ve escaped restless legs so far but there’s still time… pregnancy is the gift that keeps on giving!!

OP posts:
Wintermum01 · 17/12/2023 07:32

@OnAir Agreed, no dignity involved whatsoever! Fun times ahead!

OP posts:
DuploTrain · 17/12/2023 09:57

@sarahc336 that was funny 😁

With my first my waters broke in the birthing pool and there was merconium (baby poo) in them.

I had my midwife, student midwife, and then another midwife they summoned in, all clustering round the pool asking in a very kindly head tilt manner “are you sure it’s your waters and you haven’t done a poo?” It was my waters!

Fivepigeons · 17/12/2023 10:04

I pissed myself a little when I sneezed the other day.. I didn't even need a wee ffs.
This is my 3rd baby and I'm 36 now and yes I think I'm getting too old for this.. gonna be some more permanent form of contraception being used after this..
We don't have a shower and trying to shave your legs whilst in the bath is something else whilst 34 weeks. I can't even get the plug out whilst in the bath any more because I can't bend.. have to get out of the bath first... pretty sure it's possible I won't even be able to get out of the bath unaided soon..
And it's shit because as this is our 3rd my husbands sympathy has dwindled somewhat.. he's started sighing when I ask him to do up my shoes..

Wintermum01 · 17/12/2023 10:10

@DuploTrain haha! Cheeky gits 😂

OP posts:
Wintermum01 · 17/12/2023 10:14

@Fivepigeons Oh I wouldn’t be able to get out the bath, no way! Well done you, I say!
