Had a very faint positive test on 4th December. Have been spotting brown when I wipe only for a couple of days prior to that (thought that was an early period coming).
Had a scan at EPU and they saw nothing but thickened lining. So pregnancy of unknown location was diagnosed, they took my bloods and I am coming back on Monday for more bloods.

They couldn't see anything in the tubes etc so it probably means it failed. I know its early but I do believe you should be able to see something.

Has anyone had the same experience?

Could you have ovulated late? X

AskingForAFriend12 · 16/12/2023 12:03

Funnily enough, I wanted to see if I am nearing menopause (I am 40) so I took ovulation test this cycle that was positive on the 21st November. So if we move it a couple of days to 23rd November that would still make me 5+2 I think.

I had this, I'm sorry but for me they treated it as ectopic, I had regular blood tests until hcg levels had totally dropped which took a while, there was a medication option as well.

Did they also see no mass in your ovaries?

they didn't see anything - I also had the 'prune juice' type of bleeding which was my GP referred me straight away.

AskingForAFriend12 · 16/12/2023 14:55

Just got a call from EPU, the hcg is around 620. I just bloody hope its not ectopic.

I had an ectopic. I started bleeding at 7 weeks and had a scan at 7+2 and the pregnancy was clearly visible in my right tube. I had surgery at 7+4 to remove it.

It may still be a bit early to see where the pregnancy is, especially if you implanted late. Sometimes ectopics can self resolve and women don't need methotrexate or surgery, so that could also be happening for you potentially. I assume EPU will regularly test your bloods and monitor your HCG?

I would recommend that you familiarise yourself with the symptoms of a ruptured ectopic, like shoulder pain, just in case. Basically, if you feel worried, unwell or in pain at any point, I would go to A&E.

Fingers crossed it's not an ectopic but if it is, please don't panic. They're very treatable and lots of women go on to have have babies afterwards.

I think they would just let me die in the local A&E now lol.

Will have another bloods taken on Monday.

So HCG went up by 80% in the 48 hours. Will have a scan next week.

I would push for a scan this week if you can. How many weeks are you?

I didn't test positive until I was 5 days late with my ectopic and it was a very faint line. At that point I was 4+5 (my cycles are usually 28 days).

Remember you can go to A&E at any point you feel unwell and they should scan you. It was taken very seriously when I had to go to A&E last year.

They were happy with the rise, they said its likely to be viable pregnancy. You don;t sound positive. Did your levels nearly double?

Sorry, forgot to add. I should be around 5+4 or so, but not sure. 28 - 29 day cycle but ovulate late, normally around day 17 or so.

The spotting stopped yesterday and on the ultrasound (on saturday) they said my uterine lining is 25mm which is also correlated with viable pregnancy.

OP posts:
DemelzaRobins · 19/12/2023 08:59

Ah, brilliant about the uterine lining. My uterine lining was basically non existent when I was first scanned so it's good news yours is present and the right thickness.

They never gave me my HCG values or a percentage for rises and falls but my levels were all over the place. They would rise, then fall, then rise again all in the course of a few hours. I spent about 17 hours in A&E and had constant bloods via a cannula. The doctors seemed happy whenever the HCG fell and worried whenever it rose which is why I was a bit worried for you that they weren't scanning you sooner. However, that now sounds like a sensible approach in your case as you have positive signs like the uterine lining which is brilliant news.

Hopefully your scan next week will be good news 🤞

AskingForAFriend12 · 19/12/2023 12:15

Fingers crossed.

I am less positive about it ending up as a viable pregnancy tbf, because my hcg levels are I think quite low. They are still in the range but towards he very low values.
I am more hopeful that it won't ectopic. I did actually called them trying to push the scan forward but was told it has to be in that week.

OP posts:
AskingForAFriend12 · 26/12/2023 14:54

So I had a scan today. There was a gestational sac, I think it measured 8x9x14 mm or similar. Looking at how to measure mean gestational sac size, that would be around 10mm. No yolk sac. So rescan in 2 weeks.

It would make me around 10 days less pregnant than I am. It doesn't really work with the date of a positive test so I am not feeling positive. I might ask if anyone had any experience of this on a separate thread.

Good and fingers crossed you receive positive news in a couple weeks

Hi, thank you for asking. No, not a good news for me. In the meantime, I had another pregnancy that ended up the same way:(

No more babies for me I am afraid.

@AskingForAFriend12 thank you for responding

i am heartbroken for you. To have to go through this twice and make a very hard (but understandable) decision. I had a miscarriage last July and 6 months later find myself in a position where my pregnancy isn’t viable and most likely ectopic. i find out on Wednesday when im just past the 6 week mark. They couldn’t find and a sac at 5 weeks 2 days and my HCG is low and slow rising. TTC can be so hard and heartbreaking.

sending gentle hugs your way ❤️

Oh no:(

I am so sorry you are going through this.
I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Hopefully, age is on your side and you will get your bundle of joy!
