Hi, unexpected pregnancy as I am 40, nearly 41. Had my younger one a couple of years ago.

Just before my period was due, I started spotting (brown stringy spotting with only a bit of red blood) so I thought my period was about to start. It was getting less and less and I got nauseous so did a pregnancy and boom it was positive.

The spotting has tailed off but its still there, only when I wipe and not all the time. It has now been a couple of weeks and I will have a scan tomorrow 5+5. I still feel sick and the tests got stronger.

This didn't happen with any of my previous pregnancies, 2 kids and one miscarriage in 2018 so I am not sure what to think.

I think given my age and the spotting I am not convinced this is going to go anywhere.

Did anyone experiences the same? How did it end up?

Hi it’s still early days for myself but I’m 9w1d and I do have brown spotting since 6weeks.
it tails of and then comes back so it’s been quite constant.
i had lots of early scans bc of this as I thought I was mc but it turns out I have a small hematoma.
my dr is not worried at all, easier said than done I know! I’ve been constantly anxious but I had a scan last day and one of the babies was waving his hand at us🤭
I hope it turns out well for you as well🩵

Massive congratulations!

I hope I will know more tomorrow. But it might be too early to see much. When did you first see a heartbeat?

Good luck with everything!

@AskingForAFriend12 I had spotting with my pregnancy until roughly 10/11
weeks. I had early scans but they couldn’t see anything wrong. My understanding is that some women do with some pregnancies and others don’t. It’s not always a bad sign so sending you lots of positive vibes and hope it all works out well for you! Although horrendous, the nausea is a good sign!

@AskingForAFriend12 at 5w5d I couldn’t see a heartbeat unfortunately and I was so so worried, but don’t get disheartened at 6w2d I went back and there it was a flickering heartbeat from tiny blobs !

if you can change your scan to a few days later that would be the best or just go for another one in a few days as I did!
it was just easier for me as my dr was happy to see me whenever I was anxious(treatment abroad)
wishing you all the best🫶🏻

No, its EPU scan so can't change it:(
I think they want to rule out ectopic so not sure if they would ask me back if no heartbeat. Might have to get a private one!

@AskingForAFriend12 it depends on their findings I guess, but as far as I know if there can’t find heartbeat they schedule a scan for a week after.

I had constant brown spotting from 4 weeks until about 9-10 weeks. It made me so so anxious. I still check the toilet paper after I wipe everytime, it’s just a habit now! DD is 14 weeks and asleep on me as I type

i was scanned by EPU at 5+3 - saw gestational sac only. Scanned again at 7+4 and saw tiny embryo and heartbeat

That's great! I am glad it all ended well.

I am trying to adopt "my body will do the best" attitude but you do become invested:)

I have a strong suspicion I won't see much more if that!

I spotted with my first from 5-12 weeks, always brown.
I had IVF so the clinic got me in for an early scan, didn't see much just a sack, week later a heartbeat.
He's now refusing to go to sleep 🫠

EPU will get you back in for another scan if you don't see a heartbeat.

AskingForAFriend12 · 16/12/2023 10:10

So had the ultrasound today. I should be 5+2 or 5+3 if I account for later ovulation etc.
The only thing they saw was thickened lining, nothing else. They didn't see anything in my ovaries luckily but cannot rule out ectopic.

They took bloods and I am coming back on Monday for another blood.

They were trying to be positive bless them, but I think its failing intrauterine pregnancy if I am lucky and ectopic if I am unlucky.

Thank you for thinking of me! I had a call about an hour ago and my hcg went up by 80% in 48 hours which is apparently within the norm.

They now assume this is a viable pregnancy and I will have a scan on boxing day.

Did they do an internal scan OP? I'm assuming they did. Hopefully this is just down to the sonographer not seeing things because they are so small!

Sunshineclouds11 · 18/12/2023 16:39

Oh this is good news op!
Agree they are so so tiny it's really hard to see them!

Everything crossed for you
