Number 1 a bit insecure?

Hi - got a gorgeous, well behaved (well, most of the time!) 4 year old boy and number 2 is due in about 6 weeks. DS is very excited and can't wait to help and he has been included in everything in getting ready for new baby. But this week he has been quite weepy, missing me when he is at playschool which he loves, and being really clingy around me, I would imagine its quite normal but just wondering if anyone has any top tips on how to make him feel a bit happier? Thanks in advance.

Lucky you, my 4 year old ds is not very well behaved most of the time - he's an imp!

My ds was 19 months when dd was born and I still had the same problems you're having but just expressed less verbally. He just needs loads of reassurance from you and one to one time every day especially when the baby is born (and when you least feel like it). He thinks he will be displaced when no2 comes along, you just have to remind him he won't be - but that you will probably be tired and grumpy some of the time. Are you doing an exciting new present from the baby type thing?

we got dd1 a 'big sister' tshirt for coming to hosp to see dd2 when she was born and gave her a photo of herself and baby so she could take it to nursery with her to show everyone, that and a Dora book about being a big sister too

let him help you with some stuff to do with baby before its born so he feels like he has contributed to making it safe and comfy for baby to come home too

all the luck in the world

Brilliant, thanks for the tips. We will do the present thing and the big brother t-shirt is a great idea, do you know where to get one from?
