Have an appointment with the consultant to make a plan to avoid blood loss as I lost a litre in labour with my first. What should I expect at the appointment?

Probably, in no particular order, a review of what caused the bleeding last time; thoughts about how likely it is to happen again; ideas for how to avoid it (eg managed 3rd stage of uterine tone was the problem last time); chat about cannulation if the risk is thought to be high (it’s much easier to site a cannula before someone’s lost a big chunk of blood so it often makes sense to do it in anticipation); they will probably look at your current haemoglobin/ ferritin etc to see if anything could be optimised before delivery. HTH.
