Who answers the phone on the labour ward?

Hi all! Probably a silly question, but who answers the phone on the labour ward (the number you call when you're in labour to assess whether you are ready to go in etc). Are they midwives, nurses, care assistants, or is their job solely phone based?

The triage line may be answered by a ward clerk (like a receptionist) but then will be passed to a midwife to assess someone in labour or with any concerns or questions about their or their baby's wellbeing. Often it is answered by a midwife straight away but depends if they are free to get to the phone while it is ringing.

Anyone that happens to be sat at the desk. Normally the ward clerk, then gets passed to a senior midwife to triage
