Movements

I am currently 16weeks pregnant and not felt the baby move since last Sunday .

I'm not sure if I should be worried as it's quite early to be feeling movements but I have been feeling some movements since the scan at 13 weeks when I could feel the baby roll and have been able to feel some light tapping every so often since .

Is it worth getting in touch with the midwife ? I don't want them to think I am wasting their time , could it just be that the baby is in a different position and is still very small ?

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you

I started feeling movements at 17 weeks and had a few days at 21 weeks when I couldn’t feel the baby. I spoke to the midwife and she said the baby probably has moved in to a spot that hard for you to feel. I feel like at 16 week it’s very possible for that to be the case but if you are concerned it’s always better to ask.

Thank you , that is reassuring , I think that's probably what happened. I will probably call the community midwife as well just to make sure . was in a frightening situation earlier in the week and felt like I had a panic attack and have been worried it had affected the baby

I totally get that. Me noticing the reduced movement came after we had had an appointment with fetal medicine after an issue was spotted at our 20 week scan. The baby has a kidney issue that hopefully will resolve itself but also could require intervention when they are born. I think the anxiety of that put me in a more heightened state and when I felt the movement reduce it really panicked me so I totally understand. I am definitely on the side of it’s always better to be seen as too cautious when pregnant than not.

With my second I definitely felt her at 13 weeks. Nothing then until about 16/17 weeks and then I had a week or so with nothing at all. It's stressful but normal.

You are right , definitely best to be cautious, thank you very much for reassurance. I hope your baby will be ok , how many weeks are you ? Will you get extra scans to monitor baby ?

I’m 16+5 and been feeling movement on and off for about a week. I had my 16 week appointment yesterday and mentioned to my midwife that I feel the movements occasionally but there’s no pattern at all yet. She wasn’t worried and just said it’s nice I’m feeling them so early as a lot of people don’t feel anything to 18 weeks or even later. Sometimes I think I feel baby but I can’t be 100% sure so I’m just putting it down to being really early days still. We’ve got a gender scan on the 17th so will get some reassurance then too. If in doubt just ask your midwife ☺️

@Gem230 I am almost 26 weeks (on Sunday). I have a scan at 30 weeks at the fetal renal clinic with the consultant to check on the baby’s kidney. Hopefully it will be stable or have improved but thankfully one of its kidneys is completely healthy and the fluid around the baby is normal so we know the right kidney is working as it should. Like the consultant said “you only need one working kidney to be healthy”. Thankfully I feel the baby moved a lot now and recently they’ve been getting hiccups which is an interesting one.

I do sometimes feel that feeling the baby so early can be a blessing but also cause a lot of anxiety as there is no pattern early on.

If something doesn’t feel right just get checked out. Not worth waiting around for the anxiety of it or safety for baby. I say this from first pregnancy & having several reduced movement episodes and being induced at 37 + 6 due to it. Very stressful pregnancy. Had an anterior placenta but even then was advised I should still be able to feel baby & many times didn’t. Have an anterior placenta this time too but so far movement has been so much more noticeable than first pregnancy. Good luck!
