8/9 Weeks and anxious

Hi all,

I am currently 8/9 weeks pregnant with my first. I went for an early scan last weekend and thought I was 8+6 based on my last period, however I measured at 8+1, so slightly smaller.

It was great to see the little heartbeat flicker away and definitely (temporarily) relieved some anxiety and made it feel real!

However, I have found in the past week I've not felt as sick, and now I'm feeling the anxiety build up again. It feels like a long wait until my first proper 12 weekish scan!

I wondered if anyone has been through anything similar? Is it normal to measure slightly small, and for symptoms to lessen?

Thank you!! xxx

Measuring slightly smaller is normal due to inaccuracies in ultrasound measurements, and also you don't know your exact date of ovulation (especially if you are going by last period). A more accurate reading will be given at your 12 week scan.

I had fluctuations in symptoms. One day I wouldn't feel sick or have sore boobs, and the next week it would come back with a vengeance. Also, your placenta is getting ready to take over at 12 weeks so they might decline.

If you are still concerned, you can speak to your midwife.

I've had friends who maybe felt sick for a week but then had absolutely no symptoms, our bodies just deal with the hormones differently and it will fluctuate. I felt very sick for the first 2 months then it eased off and didn't feel sick at all, I'm 8ish weeks now and have only just started feeling a bit nauseous! Try to stay calm and positive and keep busy until your next scan ❤️
