Period like cramps at around 5 weeks?

Hi everyone! Very recently tested positive and according to Flo I’m around 5 weeks pregnant right now. I’ve been pregnant once before which resulted in my 2.5 year old son. We got pregnant with him first try, and this has been first try for no.2 and it seems to have worked. I feel very very lucky, especially as I’m 35!

Since last night I’ve been having gentle period like cramps. Not intense, just rumbling away. It’s coming and going today, mostly not there but moments when I feel it.

I don’t remember this type of pain with my son, but I didn’t find out til around 7 weeks with him so not sure if it was there but I’ve just forgot about it as I wasn’t putting much stock on it! M

Has anyone had this type of pain very early on?

I had quite strong pains like this with my first. She’s now 32 😀 Wishing you well.

Yes it is very normal I've had them with all of my pregnancies currently pregnant with baby number 4 also around 7-8 weeks, only need to be concerned if there is also bleeding

Definitely felt these pains more with second and later pregnancies.

I think most women get them and they're nothing to worry about.

Thank you for the replies everyone! It’s such an unsettling sensation, glad to hear others have experienced it!

Yes I'm at 5 weeks with you and had them. Flo said it was normal and the embryo latching on ot something like that

I have had loads of period type cramping throughout my pregnancy and I’m over halfway now, in my first trimester I was always going to the toilet expecting my period to have started! It’s normal.

Thanks everyone! It’s so strange! Definitely feeling tailbone pain too and a familiar hemorrhoids ache (got them during my first pregnancy and they’ve never went away - just wait to cause issues haha). Can only assume it’s the blood starting to move to that area! And the boob pain!

Think I’m just aware of the changes more than I was with my first/body is changing faster as it’s done it before!

I had period cramping and bleeding from about 5 to 8 weeks. I'm now 40 weeks pregnant. It's actually very normal at the start of pregnancy. I was like you very anxious and worried, and was so relieved to see a heartbeat at my scan.

XenaTheWarriorPrincess · 09/12/2023 00:33

Yep it's totally normal and very common. Your uterus is stretching out ready to accommodate your growing bean.

I had on and off cramps throughout the first trimester, nothing to worry about.

Thanks again everyone!

By this time with my son I was also curled up in the fetal position with terrible sickness yet right now (touching all the wood) I have mild nausea at best. I am so hoping it stays this way, can’t imagine having extreme sickness with a toddler to parent!

Bodies are crazy!

Yes, I’m a similar number of weeks to you and also feel a dull ache similar to period pain. I also have a toddler to parent and thankfully no nausea yet, I’m definitely fatigued and more hungry though! Good luck with your pregnancy, Lots of fun to come!
