GD test

I'm waiting on the results of my glucose fasting test and was told I'd be called today if it's positive otherwise I won't hear anything. I'm so on edge waiting for the phone to ring and can't focus on my work or anything! I didn't have GD with my first but it's suspected this time due to baby's measurements from the scan and just feeling rubbish about it. Just looking for some support I suppose!

Hey just wanted to pop on and let you know my outcome, I had my GD test at the weekend and it came back as all clear. I am also measuring quite big for the weeks I am so it's not always a sign of GD, you might just make chunkier babies 😊
Do you not have your notes online? I was able to check my results this way.

Try not to worry too much, I know it's not easy and I hope your results come back ok

@anony1111 thank you so much for the reassurance, glad your results came back normal. Unfortunately the hospital I'm under don't do online notes so I can't check, just have to wait for a phone call. But the midwife did say if I haven't heard anything by tomorrow I can email them to ask them to double check for me. It's just the waiting is horrible!

@gentlemum thank you 😊 oh that's annoying! No news is good news so far though 🤞🏼

I got diagnosed two weeks ago following a GTT at 28 weeks. I knew it was coming and tbh I was very surprised that I didn't get it in my first pregnancy with DS.

If it does happen, allow yourself time to process it and get your head round it. It can all feel like it happens really quickly and at times it's overwhelming t4rying to juggle it all alongside the day to day - in the last two weeks I've been given my testing kit and already been put onto Metformin due to high fasting levels, but I think of it this way - it's good that I have a dedicated team to look after my care moving forwards and keeping me and my baby safe until birth.

I'd also highly recommend checking out the Gestational Diabetes UK website for recipes and info, and also joining the Facebook Group too - It's been an absolute lifesaver for me and helped me figure things out a lot quicker.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get a normal result back soon x

@Lottie917 thank you for the support and advice. That sounds so hard to juggle it with everything you already have to cope with. I find meals and finding things everyone will eat already difficult enough!

Is the GD test a finger prick blood test, or a full vial of blood from your arm? Hoping it's just a finger prick one!

Tefiti3 · 08/12/2023 20:48

In my trust its a full vial of blood - one taken before and another taken after @Leona46.

gentlemum · 09/12/2023 16:10

@Leona46 it's a full vial of blood and they also did my 28 weeks bloods at the same time as well so four vials and then another one two hours later. Made me feel quite faint tbh!

@gentlemum @Tefiti3 wow that is a lot! Definitely need to bring something to eat with me as soon as I can!
