Small gestational sac and no fetal pole -6wks

Hi everyone,

I am 6 weeks pregnant through IVF. I had my first early scan yesterday (6weeks exactly). She warned me before we started that because it was so early there was a chance we wouldn’t see the heart beat. I had a very small amount of spotting at 5wks 4 days and 5wks 6 days so I just wanted to double check the baby was in the right place.

when she did the scan (transvaginal
scan) she could see a gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole. The gestational sac also only measured 4mm. Has anyone else had a story like this? I have to go back next week for a follow up scan but she didn’t seem hopeful. Is it possible I am just not as far along as I thought? I didn’t think this was possible as I had ivf so I know exact dates.

I went in at 6+3 and they said I was measuring 5 weeks and could only see a gestational sac.

I've been called on Monday for another scan but panicking now!

I had this with my first pregnancy. I had to wait 2 weeks as it was too early. Went back 2 weeks later and there was a heartbeat and I had a healthy baby! So fingers crossed for you both 🤞

I had a big bleed following this post (6 weeks 3 days ish) and was told to go to a&e to confirm the miscarriage. I went for a private scan instead as it was a Saturday night and I couldn’t face a&e. At the scan they found a heartbeat!! I was measuring 5 days behind, which obviously wasn’t promising considering I had IVF so my dates were exact. I had weekly scans following this and baby was growing in line with the date. At my 12 week NHS scan I was 3 days behind and they based my due date from this scan. He was born via planned c section a day before his due date and was 8lb 14! He is currently in 98th percentile and thriving!!
