@Nclktnntt Did your LO have the rotavirus oral vaccine? If so, then that’s probably the culprit. Both of my DDs have been unsettled after having this vaccine and the nurse did advise it can cause upset tummy/tummy ache for a couple of weeks after. DD1 was particularly bad, she had green slimy poo for 2 weeks afterwards and was noticeably uncomfortable. It was awful but only lasted a couple of weeks thankfully!

Noname112 · 09/03/2024 13:50

@Nclktnntt I was advised at the 8 week vaccines that if they needed more than the 3 doses of calpol ( or two doses for 12 week vaccines) to seek advice in case something else going on. Hope your wee one is feeling better soon.

Oh - On our leaflet it said we could give calpol every 4-6 hours for 48 hours following but to seek medical advice if continued after that. He wasn't good the following day and we soent most of the day in his nappy wrapping a blanket round him when his temp normalised and removing it as it rose again. He slept a lot that day but by the night it was high but remained just under fever level and normalised by the 48 hour mark. I was getting ready to head to the doctors. It's just his behaviour has changed, he's not my happy little man (as much anyways) we still get smiles and babble but no where near as much as we were getting before hand and his crying has gone to a whole new level, he's not a cryer so it's completely out of character 😢

Thank you ladies, @LittleButtercup, @Noname112 & @SMG1992 at least it feels normal, they really should warn us more about these things

@LittleButtercup oh this is so helpful, I wish ours had warned us about this, he had the oral rotavirus vaccine and all she said is that he might have runny poos for 2 weeks, he's got bad wind and sounds like he's in pain with it so his tummy isn't right as you can hear it gurgling (a little less now though) but his poos haven't been that runny and have gone the other way if anything and he really puts a lot of effort in almost all day and manages one big one a day, it's still liquid though so not constipated. I'm thinking in this case, he's confusing the feelings he has in his tummy and the gas with needing to go. He's had a hard time learning to poop anyway because he was on antibiotics for the first 5 days which gave him diarrhoea he didn't start to learn the difference between pumping and pooping until about a week old when his system normalised... he's pretty much got the hang of it and now this 😢 bless him.

@Nclktnntt how strange the advice must be different dependant on area I assumed it was standard everywhere sorry!

From what you’re saying may also be in with a little fussy phase/development leap. Not unusual from them to cry more and be less chatty etc.

Beans1982 · 09/03/2024 21:23

I hope your LO starts to feel more like himself again soon @Nclktnntt! My little boy is only just settling this week after his jabs a couple of weeks ago.
He's always had bad gas and reflux and I didn't know that a side effect of the Rotavirus vaccine was an increase of reflux/gas. So 2 days after his jabs I had days of constant excessive spit up and being difficult to settle and the reflux carried on. He also cried like I've never heard before when he had the injections 😥
Not looking forward to his next set of jabs.

Random question for those with very gassy/reflux babies - I've noticed this past week that my LO has a lot less gas and I've not been able to get as many burps out of him when I wind him during and after feeds.
He'll be 11 weeks old on Weds, I just wondered if gas settles around this time or if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

Nclktnntt · 10/03/2024 03:47

@Beans1982 my LO being sick a lot more and I'd start wondering if he had silent reflux as it's almost every feed and before would be a small amount whereas since then it's been a decent amount coming up- my little man's also taken to playing with it and swallowing his sick again which is disgusting but he obviously likes the taste 🤢. I'd read up that that was a side effect.

I'm also dreading his next ones 😥 he really did take crying to a whole new level. Todays been the first day he hasn't just erupted into screams cries, and he seems to be calmer at night again - still sounds in pain when trying to pass wind or poop though, but it's not all night tonight at least.

@Nclktnntt thank you! So far LO has let me have a lie in (she’s still asleep!) so a great start to the day.

Hope everyone has a lovely day - we all deserve it!

Nclktnntt · 10/03/2024 22:29

@Mushroo oh amazing! Our little one had one of his worst nights to date and then proceeded to not sleep in the day but kept jumping between overtired and wanting to sleep to fighting it and wanting to play. It's been exhausting. I'm also upset my husband didn't get me anything from little man and it's my first ever Mother's Day and you only get one first Mother's Day so I'm even more pissed off. I'm going to treat myself but then that's just sad but f' it. It's my first Mother's Day! I didn't even want anything big. I'd have been happy with a chocolate bar. Just something. I got a beautiful card at least.

Hope you all had a lovely day.

@Beans1982 my LO has also been less gassy this week and generally more settled, she will be 11 weeks on Friday. I thi k I remember reading somewhere that it does get better around 3 months

Charlielechat · 12/03/2024 19:01

How is everyone getting on with tummy time? My LO does not enjoy it at all. I'm lucky if I get 2 minutes of it, and he has also discovered his hands now so just lies and sucks his hands instead of lifting his head sometimes 🙈 Trying to persevere but not seeing much progress!

Mushroo · 12/03/2024 20:09

@Charlielechat exactly the same here! She just face plants and cries.

We’ve had a little more success using a tummy time roller thing but even then it’s max 2 mins!

My mum pointed out tummy time wasn’t a thing when I was a baby, and both me and my sister (and every other child in history) has learnt to walk so I’m trying not to stress…

Charlielechat · 12/03/2024 22:29

@Mushroo glad to hear someone else in the same boat! Yeah I'm guessing he'll get there with time. There just seems to be so much pressure to do tummy time!

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 12/03/2024 22:32

Mine hated tummy time, then like a switch suddenly loved it. Think switch happened about 12 weeks! Now he'll stay on his tummy a solid 10 minutes if he's in the right mood (tries and often succeeds rolling out of it if not 😅). Really gets the gas out, so made a big difference with that.

Beans1982 · 13/03/2024 16:11

@GL1987 Ah that's good to hear, fingers crossed my LO is reaching the less gassy stage as he's 11 weeks old today.

Tummy time has been up and down for us. LO would just throw up a lot at the beginning but been trying to make more of an effort recently. He's able to raise his head and bob his head from side to side before he face plants into the mat.
He still spits up when doing tummy time but it definetly helps with his gas as well 😄

chloesl1808 · 14/03/2024 10:25

Hello all.

My little girl was 12 weeks on Monday and just wondering when I should start putting her into her next to me for daytime naps.

I feel she is at the stage now where she is fighting her naps due to being nosey so wondered if any of you have started putting your baby down in their next to me/cot for daytime naps.

gurlwhaat · 14/03/2024 14:52

@chloesl1808 hey my baby is 11 weeks now and I’ve been putting him down for naps in his cot (in what will eventually be his bedroom) since about week 8… sometimes with more success than others, he might sleep for 30mins or a couple of hours or ten mins it really varies! But I’m trying to get him used to being in that room for when we eventually make the transition as he doesn’t really nap well if he is just in the room with me unless I hold him.

Mushroo · 14/03/2024 17:15

@chloesl1808 we’ve been doing the same as @gurlwhaat and trying to get her to nap in the cot that will be her room.

Its really not going well though and she still massively favours contact naps.

I try every couple of days but I think because we don’t really have a nap routine it’s not really working.

Planning to slowly work on it.

FlyingHighFlyingLow · 14/03/2024 17:18

His sleep is so bad at night I'm letting him contact nap like he wants in the day just to get him some sleep or he'd be an overtired mess!

FirstMondayInMay · 14/03/2024 18:01

Does anybody use a swaddle bag at night time? Have you found that it helps baby to sleep longer? I feel like we’ve gone back to the newborn stage the last few weeks, waking every 2 hours so I’m willing to try anything at this point😩🤣

chloesl1808 · 14/03/2024 18:01

Thanks for your replies. She's been getting herself worked up a lot of today fighting the sleep and nothing will console her until she absolutely exhausts herself and finally falls asleep so I do think I need to start putting her down in a room where there's no sound, light etc.

Yes we have used a swaddle bag from very early on. My girl is now 12 weeks and we bought the next size up and honestly amazing. She is basically sleeping from 10/11pm until 7am which I feel very lucky with. I do think the swaddle bags make a difference. We are using the love 2 dream pens.

chloesl1808 · 14/03/2024 18:03

Ones not pens lol

FirstMondayInMay · 14/03/2024 18:06

@chloesl1808 amazing thanks! I was just looking at the love 2 dream and Tommee tippee ones, I’m gonna order one now and give it a go🤞🏼
